Escort GT, anybody have any experiences with one?

I've got an 86, and was wondering if anybody here had one, or had any good stories, info, or just knowledge about em..
I'm going to be fixing mine soon, kinda dreamin' about maybe putting a Tempo 2.3 in it. I'd have to measure to see if it'd actually fit, though.

Well, i'm not lookin' right now actually at doing somthing like that, but will seriously consider it down the road, that front drive stuff doesn't bother me at all to work on...
Would be some kick-ass fun to have a 2.3t in an Escort GT though...
And I happen to have a 2.3T...

But anyway, for starters, I'd like to just replace the 1.9 in the car right now, and get it running again as a daily driver, since gas prices here are higher than I've ever seen 'em.
Plus, driving a chevy 4x4 truck really doesnt help me out either, and we're kinda tight on our finances right now, as the wife is just getting her 'net business up and on it's feet.
And speaking of trucks, I got my 92 F-150 running again, finally, but it's not completely fixed yet, need to pull codes, and see why the  engine light is on still.

I'd like to replace the iac, the air temp sensor, and and I'd like to try a nother O2 sensor, but I ain't payin 50-80 bucks for a new one, to find that that doesn't fix it.

On a side note, I did pull the 5.0 SO today, and the piece of shiznit didn't even have the mounts/brackets, it was just wired down in the car with heavy wire! So, i'm not too thrilled by that, hopefully, the '87 V8 Cougar out there has the stuff in it, or else by gawd I AM gonna put a Stang K, and a arms under my car...

Sorry for such a long post, but had to vent somewhere...

well, mine is going to need another engine, and the clutch was slipping badly when I parked it.
My boss tells me he has a 1.9 HO in a car in the yard, but doesn't how good it is.
I've been checking out an Escort forum, and it seems as if the V6 swaps are more commonly done to the 97+ Escorts, they have the bigger engine bays, and better wiring systems to adapt to the Taurus 3.0

The most common swap is a Tempo 2.3 drivetrain, with some kind of turbo setup, not sure if it's the Garret like the TC's have, or some hybrid. (havn't read that far into that matter, yet)
Right now, I'd like to just get another 1.9hO in the thing, and get it running, It sure was a fun little car, and I got so many tickets in it, that I lost my license for 30 days, back in '98.
It has sat for 8 years since then...any ideas how good that 3/4 tank of gas is by now??!!

I would not put a tempo motor in it,  people say the 3.8 is the worst ford motor ever.  Yeah right, it was the 2.3 tempo motor.  Non crossflow head, just a poor design.

I'm not sure what it'd take to swap the newer engines in a first gen. Escort, not many have done it to the older ones...
Those split-port induction engines can be made to safely produce 400 hp...
Hard to imagine to an ole country boy like me that any little 2 liter 4 pop motor can make more hp than most V8's of the 70's had...
:nono:
But then again, those old heavy iron bastids weren't all the effiecent, i guess.

I test drove a 97 escort with 5 speed after i put a new 2.0 spi engine in it at work friday, and the  thing felt like it'd run circles around ANY na V6 Tbird I've ever rode in...and some V8s, too
They make these cars faster and faster all the time. And they get 30+ mpg....

Its tempting isnt it? i've jumped in over my head with this turbo sprint of mine and have spent enough money on it to get my tbird together and going, but I dont regret it one bit every friday when I go to the gas station and toss in $25 of gas for the week, tbird used to gulp $60 and ask for more before the week was up and it was hardly capable of passing a tempo. I still miss cruising the old beast though
