This just makes me sick....

Here in Wisconsin, we had some local elections today.  Attatched to most of these elections was a referendum about Iraq and the status of our troops over there.  This has been happening all over the country, and the results here localy just make me want to puke.:yuck:  Most of the reporting munilitys have voted to "Bring our Troops home NOW"....Not in 6 months, not in 1 year, but NOW.  What the Hell??  Do people seriosly not realize what would happen if we actually did that??  The country would literaly self destruct.  I know this... I was there.  Can we Moraly ( no matter if going there in the fiirst place was justified or not)  turn our backs on these people, now that they depend on us so much?  You know, if you agree with the war, that is one thing.  I want our troops home too.  But you know what?  The job IS NOT DONE.  What kind of message are we going to send to the world if we just up and remove troops, and leave them swinging in the breeze?  tha we are weak, and will not follow through with our convictions.  Youy know, I'm normally not an outspoken person when it comes to other peoples opinions, because as a Soldier, i am sworn to uphold the constitution of the United States.  Freedom of speech is part of what i Protect.  But For christs sake, open your  eyes people!!  You know, its days like this that I feel REALLY unsupported by the public.  And those of you in the military, former or present, probly feel the same way as I do.  Not only does this send a horrible message to our enemys, allies and others throughout the world, but it sends the completely wrong message to our military.  My friends overseas count on support from people back here, and that includes faith in our mission overseas.  The mission is not complete.  Thats what the military does....complete missions.  If we are not allowed to complete our mission, wich is about the most selfless thing anybody can ever do.  This referendum isnt even actionable... it isnt a formal vote that congress and the president have to follow.  It serves NO purpose, other than to undermine our mission, our position in the world, and in my strong opinion, the morale of all the troops stationed abroad in this conflict.  Way to show your support, Wisconsin.  In madison, the vote was 91% for bringing our troops home now, and 9% against.  I voted.  I'll bet you can guess that I was part of that 9%.  Sxrew this place.  When I see 5,000 people show up to an anti war rally, and 200 show up to a Support your troops rally, It makes me want to puke.  Again, Good job Wisconsin. Thanks for the Support.

Sorry if this is a political issue, and very controversial, but I needed to vent.  Feel free to lock this thread, delete it, or whatever.  i consider you all friends, no matter what your veiws on this subject are.  Sorry if i offended anyone with this rant.:flame:

I have sympathy for your position in this issue - perhaps people will think twice before voting for a guy who's whole ticket was "finishing what he started"

The guy is an incompetant  - that's what the people are voting against. It's too bad that the soldier who is only trying to do his job has to get caught up in the anger toward Preznit moron, but that's unfortunately how it goes. Leadership starts at the top - in this case there is no "head" on the body known as the USA.

If thats really what they were voting for, why not a referendum on if we should impeach?  It would have that same effect, but direct it to the people (Or person in this case) that deserves it, and it wouldnt undermine the militarys' mission.  THAT would have made sense.  I wouldnt have been as pissed off about it if it had been that way.  I really seem to think that with all the cesored information given out by major news reporting agencys, (and trust me, it IS cesored. Blood and guts sell papers, dont ya know...Ugggh) People in this country are GROSSLY misinformed about this whole issue.  People in general in this country need to wake the hell up and actually make an informed vote..... i bet a lot of these people would have voted in an impeachment referendum if given a chance.  To me anyways, it would have made the point.  This is truly a sad time in our country. God i hate polotics....

I dont follow politics to closely,  I do agree with why we are there and the fact that we are still there.  Only thing I will say is a big THANK YOU to all the troops for keeping us free and helping those that want to be free accomplish that.

The reason they put "referendums" like that in the polls is so the media can report later that, "Ninety-one percent of Wisconsonians agree that we should wave our hands in the air like we just don't care."

Did the referendum require a vote?  If not, I wonder how many people just said, "This is a meaningless question" and didn't vote at all.

How do you figure?  If I go in a voting booth and don't want to vote for something I just don't push a button next to it.

Oh...okay, i think I misunderstood you.  It didnt REQUIRE a vote, no.  And now I see your point.  True, a lot of people may have just said its not even worth answering that.  But a lot of the polling numbers were around the same, Like x ammout of people voted for canidate X, and S ammount voted for S.  Add those together, and you can get a pretty good idea of how many people came out to the polls.  Doing that. and then adding up the numbers that voted on the referendum, the numbers are different.  But not really that different.  It appears that most who came out for the local elections also voted on this referendum, but not quite everybody.
