1988 Cougar Blue Max V8 For Sale

Yeah, it's not a typo...I have decided to sell the '88 Blue Max V8, for a variety of reasons--mainly because I just don't have space for it anymore. So, while the body is still good, I'm selling.

Here's the scoop:

- Car has ~110,000 miles. Engine has been replaced with a 1984 Mustang non-roller 302, with approx. 20K on the rebuild (done by my personal mechanic). Engine has a mild cam using the non-HO firing order. Stock computer and electronics/wiring are in place. Essentially, you'd never know it's not a non-roller engine unless I told you....which I, um, just did. Yeah.

- Transmission has been replaced. Car was originally column shift, now a floor shift with console. AOD is from a Mustang, rebuilt by my mechanic with a few extra clutches. Shifts are excellent--absolutely perfect. Power in overdrive is outstanding for a non-HO 5.0.

- Body is very nice. Not perfect, but nice--a solid 7 out of 10. No rust is showing! Does it have a few bubbles? Mmmmmm, yeah...nothing major though. They can easily be fixed but now is the time to do so. This car was not winter driven before I owned it, and since then I've only had it out in the snow a handful of times. It was garaged this winter and hasn't seen the road since November '05. Paint is good and very smooth. Again, not perfect, but nice. If one were to throw a little cash into fixing the bubbles and getting a coherent paint job, this could easily be show-quality...it is that good! I will post the rust bubble pix as soon as I can. This car has been garaged since I bought it, and probably long before that.

- New tires, new rear shocks. Brakes are good all around. Front struts seem to be alright. Fluids are all fresh. No leaks!

- Exhaust is new...Mustang factory headers, Mustang H-pipe with all 4 converters (air pump not hooked up), stock pipes from the cats back, Summit lers. No leaks, no holes, sounds good...not annoying, good for cruising.

- Interior mods: '88 XR7 blue buckets, console, floor shifter, Turbo Coupe/XR7 dash panels, 2-spoke sport steering wheel. The "JoeBondo" 199mph speedo mod has been done.

- JUST bought a Blaupunkt CD player for it; sounds good. Oh, there's an amp mounted behind the back seat that will go with the car. I have replaced all the speakers and overall the system sounds pretty good. I'll probably even throw in the 10" subs and box in the trunk.

- Most of the unique Blue Max stuff is on the car. C-pillar emblems are good, trunk emblems are good, dash emblem is great. The original Max bumper emblem was gone when I got the car, but I do have an alternative for it that I'll leave up to the next owner.

- Everything pretty much works on the car, even the cruise control. Well, the a/c doesn't work...now there's a shock!

Not good things:

- Rear window needs resealed. I took care of the windshield but just haven't had the chance to get to the back window.

- This car was in a slight front fender-bender before I owned it. The passenger rear quarter was also replaced. The replacement job is very nice...no shoddy work. Frame is straight, no alignment issues. Neither of these things have affected the driveability or the paint/body. If I hadn't told you, you probably wouldn't have known. Just wanted you to be aware of it.

- There is a slight sputtering once the car is warm. I honestly have no clue what it is...it's stumped me and two mechanics. Whatever is causing it has to be electronic or emissions in nature, since the problem existed before and after the engine/trans swaps. Maybe fuel pump? Can't really say...I can throw out a dozen guesses though. It's just slightly annoying, nothing life-threatening though.

If you're looking for a great candidate for a show car...this is it. The car is straight, clean and ready to roll.

Hmm I've rode in this car. It's definitely a nice ride, and that shade of blue is really nice. Too bad you have to sell it. If it were me I'd just pave a bigger portion of the driveway to make room for it. Oh well I guess it'll make a great addition to someone else's driveway.

If I didn't have other plans for my tax return money I would buy that car AND widen the driveway.

Because i'm bored and nosy, what's up with the V6 Blue Max? I would've thought you'd keep this V8 one and let go of the V6.
