Max speed achieved in first gear. December 04, 2004, 10:45:42 AM Hi!How fast can you get up to while still in first gear?I'm around 100 km/h(60mp/h). Is it a 2.73 rear gear or numerically smaller?I want to upgrade the rear gears. The mechanic said : 3.27 or 3.45 will be OK for my engine.I'm afraid of the 3.45 because I run often around 100 km/h (60 mp/h)How high the motor will rev?I've got a C4 with 2.46, 1.46, 1.00.And the mechanic said I also have to invest in a 2200-2400rpm torque converter.P.S.: I need a new starter motor, can I use a starter from a 302 Ford engine?byeRobi'84 Cougar 3.8 V6 Quote Selected
Re: Max speed achieved in first gear. Reply #1 – December 04, 2004, 11:30:22 AM As far as I can remember, when i had my mustang, with T5 and 3.73 I washiznitting the yellow @ 60Km/h....3.55 is good also with automatic... it will give you a way better launch than 2.73 while still drivable on Highway... Re: Max speed achieved in first gear. Reply #2 – December 04, 2004, 10:38:50 PM I have 3.45's on my '88 w/302 & AOD. It runs around 2700-2800rpm at 60mph in 3rd gear with 225/70-15 tires. My motor seems happy at that speed, and I don't use overdrive at less than 60-65mph unless I'm on an open highway. Quote Selected
