Need help identifying a T-5

There's a guy selling a T-5 in the local paper, but the wording of the ad makes me wonder if it's a 5.0 T-5:

For sale: Borg Warner T-5 transmission with small block Ford bellhousing

The way it's worded almost makes me think the guy put a 5.0 bellhousing onto a 4-cyl T5. If it's a 5.0 tranny I wanna buy it, but if it's a 4-cyl version I'm not going to bother - hell, I've already got one of those in the parts TC.

So, any quick ways of verifying the tranny to ensure it's a V8 version? Tags? Input shaft length/diameter? Your quick replies are appreciated, as it's selling fairly cheap ($250) so time is of the essence

Aside from the tags, the input shaft length is the easiest give away. If it's under 7.25"...it's a Fox 5.0 trans..

get a pilot bushing for the 5.0 tranny,if it fits good it is a 5.0 tranny if the input shaft tip is way small its a 4cyl. 5 speed.

Just by the way the ad is worded I would say its from a 5.0 for sure. Pick up a pilot bushing from Partsource (keep the receipt) and take that to the tranny. If it fits, you already have the bushing, if it's from a 2.3, then you can get your money back....

I just picked up a 4 cyl trans today for cheap.with a direct pull 2.3 bell.... maybe SVO or 84-86 t/c hopefully it will hold up in my stang for a while.

Turns out it was a 4-cyl tranny. The guy pulled it from a 4-cyl stang and put a 5.0 bell on it to install into his Mustang, but decided against it because the Mustang has mods, so he went with a Tremec.

Since I've already got a 4-cyl T5 I'm not gonna buy that one...

I'm asuming that you'd rather not pay to get it shipped, but I know a guy selling a world class T-5 that just need to be re-built. Not really sure if it was made for a 4-banger, but he is a huge XR4Ti guy, so I think it might be. Not really sure if that would matter though it beeing a racing tranny and all. I know it's not very feasible, but I'm just throwing it out there.

I'd say that a world-class T5 would be more for a V8, and looking at Chuck's chart, all the aftermarket, and Ford Motorsport T5's have V8 ratios, compared to the 4 cylinder versions...
Also, I think that I read somewhere that WC T5 are capable of 350-450
hp and torque specs...

Well I suppose the offer extends to anyone willing to pay for having it shipped out. I don't know how much they go for new, or used for that matter, but all he said was it needs a rebuild.

A World Class T5 is ANY FORD version(4 cyl or 5.0) begnning in '85. It has to do with the type syncros and needle bearings used between the gears and main shaft(bronze bushings in Non-WC versions). Torque ratings has nothing to do with it. GM still used the Non-WCs a year or two after Ford.
