I never did that before and now with a little one I find it even more arrogant.  My daughter is too young for either one of the toys right now (especially the Cougar.....WAYYYYYY too loud), but if I happen to be driving her somewhere 2 years from now in the Stang and someone does that to me with her in the car I am NOT gonna be happy with that person:mad:

What if the car was designed to do that? Let me explain....way back....er...I don't know how far back...but back none the less....rally cars used a type of anti-lag system that involved holding the spark until the exhaust valve was open. This allowed the AF mixture to pass into the space between the combustion chamber and the turbine wheel. Obviously this would keep the turbo spooled, even at idle. These were removed for many reasons...mainly noise levels, but also to keep costs down between lower budget teams.

So if I were to say...invest in an ignition system with this capability.....and install it on my Coug, would that be an acceptable way of "pipe-shooting" according to you guys here at the board?

(I know the disadvantages so please don't lecture me on why this is a stupid modification to make on my car. This is something that I want on my car, even if it is just for show. I like the way the rally cars pop and used to shoot flames out the tailpipe. It's part of the reason I'm keeping the turbo engine and most of the reason I got hooked on turbos.)

nope, it would still be ghey....there is a time and place for that ...

I understand that, there's a time and place to race, to be obnoxious, and so on...but anti-lag systems, if turned on, will do it no matter what the time.  Under normal driving they'll pop, anytime you put in the clutch it will pop.  More so when the engine is producing a lot of heat but it will do it all the time.  So I'd be a horrible person allllll the time just because my car uncontrollably pops?  (Mine won't be all the time but there are cars with systems equipped with drivers who didn't install a method of turning it off.)  You guys are rough.

I could care less if there were flames. I just think reving the living shiznit out of your car for attention is beyond childish.

there is just no need for it a all. the car performs fine and if not there are a ton of mods that boost performance without making it obnoxious / sounding like a POS

wtf is pipe shotting is it like a ricer rev? or a ricer flyby?

lol, i'm so glad you asked that question so i didn't have to. i thought he was talking about giving the finger or something.

but i have done that once (sorta), to about four people simulatenously, completely unintentional though. my ignition module ped out on me whilst i was doing about 60mph, me unaware of what was going on at the time, i press the gas for confirmation that my tach isn't lying. next thing i know it fires back up a revs to high noon and let's out this huge "POW" while surrounded by 3-4 cars. It was dark out so the whole underside of my car lit up like a bomb exploded. i'm sure they were just as horrified as i was. then it died again (going uphill) to give me just enough power to pull into a cemetary.

What i like to do is if im trying to get someones attention, i whip by them and let of the throttle while im still in the gear i was using to accelerate, so say i take it up to 6K in 2nd gear, i like to just let off the throttle for the nice, and satisfying BRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!! the 2.3L makes under decel. Especially after it follows the sound of my bypass valve.

Why would you put your car through something like that? You may get respect from your average ricer for such things, but most sane car guys will just blip the trottle a little bit, or give the nod.

Personally, if another T-bird guy did that to me, I'd call him a tool and ignore him.

local guy around here has a '83-'86 BLUE Cougar...he blew past me in the truck and I gave him the thumbs up...he did the same last summer to me when I was in the t-bird...my car makes enough noise to be noticed @ idle...lol...how can ya miss a flat black t-bird with flames...even the  cops like it...though some have been asking where it went...told them it's getting some work done...hehe...I usually rev it once and a while to piss off a local rice-ball...he put 2g in the engine, and my ol' caprice wagon took him still...t-bird is faster than my wagon was...so...I had to install/fix his bodykit for votech. he painted it a weird red metallic, then he tried racing on the backroads needless to say the body kit needs fixing again...he was asking 4500 for it...'94 Probe 4cyl 5spd. with shopping cart wing LOL

something about revin my car makes me happy, i'll probably continue to do it until i get older and more wiser. I just turned 20 last month.  But it is and it's not like a ricer, cause it's a v8 and it sounds pretty  good. it's just a "voom paaaaaaa"  and when i down shift it's like a "paa a a a a a a aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa pop!"  And surprisingly my AOD is still working from the abuse.  I usually run it through the gears in town, and when i get on the highway to go to work.  All in all i'm a good driver, actually a great driver.  When i do these things i'm not driving crazy or anything... i'll just be cruising along and see a bird, pop it in neutral and say hello... or i'll downshift when i gotta stop anyway.  But my car is my beater.  The day when i have respect for the things i buy, (like hopefully a nicer t-bird) is probably the day i just give it a tap on the gas instead of wide open throttle.

But thanks to everyone, cause i now i know i'm retarded and need to tone it down.

Ya, I'd get the finger from a bunch of guys here.

Back when I had the 5.0 in the Coug, before it had an exhaust....just downpipes....I would go down hill and shift it into 1, it would downshift into 2nd and let out a nice crackle.....every once and again it would BANG! like a shotgun.  Very nice, I liked it....but it sucked driving by houses at night.  I eventually got caught by the police, but got nothing besides a fix it now speech.

And I'm looking very forward to popping and banging and reving once I get the new engine done.  Obnoxious to some, intimidating to others.  I don't really care...as long as I'm happy and driving my car.  Might even add some flame throwers for a special touch after I stomp a few challengers.

I've heard of "piping" people (not pipe-shooting, dunno where that came from), I know a lot of Mustang guys do it to each other if they're going opposite directions. I can't really do it to anyone cuz my exhaust isn't loud enough.

I do like getting my car up just close enough to boost that when I let off the throttle, it makes that cool "fluttering" sound that turbos make :)
