what are you claiming as dependants? I claim 0 which is just me, they take a lil more out over the year but you get more back. I claimed 1 last year and only got back 400something.

Do you mean exemptions? If your single and independant, you will usually have to claim one. Unless your parents can claim you, which will benefit them but not you. Last year, my company screwed up and gave me 2 exemptions rather than 1 so I will probably end up owing money. Id be happy to break even.

There is no set number of exemptions that you have to claim.  You can be single and claim 4 if you want but you will pay for it come tax time.

yea, claiming 1 just means they take out less and you get less back. I claimed 1 last year and got back 400something. I claimed 0 this year, they take a lil more out but Im getting back 600 more then what I did last year.
