buttstuffogue cluster, quick question

(sorry if this in the wrong section-it encompasses a coupla different things)
Just acquired an buttstuffogue Sport cluster.
My car is a base/V6, getting ready for a 5.0 out of a Sport.
I know I'll have to run the tach wire from coil.

I'm confused on the oil sender though.

What I'm wondering is, since I'm getting the v8 from a sport, and I have a sport cluster, is the lead for the tach in my base harness, or will I have to run a wire for it, also?

And since I'm on the subject, I've read about the fuel sending unit being different, will I have to drop the tank, and change that, or is there a resistor I can put on/in?

ok I might be able to help on this a little. first off it would be good to know which cluster was originally in the car. Im assuming when you said it was base that it was the base cluster in it with the speedo digital and the rest buttstuffog. the harness part Im not sure on you would have to look at the plugs and see if the wires in it. on the fuel sending unit part. I think the buttstuffog cluster and the base cluster use the same fuel sending unit although Im not 100% on this. I know the base is different from the fully digital. if you hook the digital up your gas guage actually reads backwards or at least mine did. it read empty until you got down to about a half a tank and then started rising towards full as the tank went empty. the base cluster and the full buttstuffog cluster both have buttstuffog fuel guages so the sender should work. someone else jump in here if Im wrong.also on the tach wire I had to run a wire in mine which had the base cluster in it. since the base cluster didnt come with a tach in it they didnt add that wire. on the oil sender the base cluster operates off of a light where as the buttstuffog cluster has a guage. here again they read exactly opposite of one another. the sender for the oil pressure guage will actually keep the light on until the oil pressure drops. so if your old cluster had a light youll have to change it. I had to when I switched to digital just go to autozone or a similar parts store and tell them you need an oil sender for what ever year it is with the buttstuffog guages. they should be able to hook you right up they did me. and the sensor only costed like 10 bucks so its not bad. the wires still hook up exactly the same.
Hope this helps

if you have the V8 cluster, the oil and temp wires will be in the harness.:D  The harnesses have both wires for the temp gauge, (digital and buttstuffogue).;)

Sounds like all I'll need to do is run that tach wire, and get a 5.0 oil sender...hell yeah!

Regardless of the cluster or engine your oil and water wires will be there. In all models the base cluster has an oil pressure light and a temp gauge, so the wires are there. You will just have to run your tach wire and replace the oil sender.

OH, and to install an oil pressure sender you'll need an adapter to bring the sender out from the engine a few inches. The pressure sender is larger around than the pressure switch, so it won't fit past the oil filter. If the 5.0 you have was from a car with a gauge (either buttstuffogue or digital) you should already have that adapter. If it had a light you'll need the adapter.

If you would have seperated that into a couple of paragraph's that would have been some good reading.

The 5.0 I'm putting in came out of an '88 Sport, I'll check which cluster it has when I get the swaybars and springs from it next week...

If it's an '88 Sport it should have the (relatively rare) V8 buttstuffogue cluster. An '87 would have the full digital
