It was on this date in 1994 that Apple introduced the first digital camera that allowed users to download photos directly into their computers.

... I didn't realize this technology was that "new."

How many people had even heard of, let alone owned, a digital Camera 14 years ago? I remember the first time I saw a digicam, and that was 2001.

I can't recall, but it just blows my mind that the technology is that new.

Hmmm...one of those was on eBay last week. I think it was like <1 megapixel or something ridiculous. There was about a 7-year gap where I was withdrawn from computers and lost track of a lot of what Apple did, and this camera (and the first PDA, the Apple Newton) came out during that time. Wonder how long it took to download a photo to the computer...? Wonder how many times that process locked up the computer?! Fascinating...

Edit: Here's one on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/Apple-QuickTake-200-Digital-Camera-Kit-NICE-XD_W0QQitemZ7589684028QQcategoryZ1085QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Had a really awful old digital camera around 1997-98, I think. Cost $200-300 just to get expansion cards that were in the 2-8 meg range. (think the 8 meg one never worked right) Was a little bit bigger than a brick, and almost as useful. Think I had to hold the camera still for like 10 seconds to get the picture.

BTW, 1994 isn't that "new" in computing. We're talking the age of the 486, on the PC side. (first Pentium may have just come out by then, in the range of a mind-blowing 60/66 MHz) Don't remember if the PPC 601 was even around yet.

Lol my friend still uses his Mavica on a regular basis.  His little bro's take all their myspace pics with it.  It's a freaking riot.
