Need some help

ok got an 86 cougar (stock 5.0) my problems are this some times when i turn a corner my car will just cut out and die (like its loseing fuel presure) a friend of mine thinks it might be the power steering pump causing this its a bad pump so sometimes it hits a hard spot, could this be it, second question is this amp light keeps coming on and the battery and altenator are good, could this just be the alt. being to small to handle all the electrical things? any help would be appreciated. Thanks

It sounds like due to the strain from turning the wheel, the idle drops so much it causes your car to die.

I think there is supposed to be a sensor of some sort that keeps the idle up when you turn the wheel so the car doesn't stall.

I can't remember what the sensor called or even if our cars have them. Could somebody correct me on this?

Sorry this is probably no help.

There is no power steering pressure sensor on a Fox body.

Sounds more like your running the tank to low on fuel.

I had a problem like that a while back, been to long to remember exactly the car was doing but I remember replacing the throttle position sensor and it's ran fine ever since.

You may try spraying a little WD40 or the likes on the sensor to see it that free's it up, if so then it needs replacin'.

Then again, I think you have a different engine configuration on an 86. I have the 85 Thunderbird with the 5.0
1985 T'Bird 5.0
1987 Cougar 3.8
1992 T'bird Sport 5.0 HO
