How many times has your T-Bird been called a Cougar? Or vice versa?

Oh, I've heard that way too many times.

There was a guy who came over and complemented me on it when I was getting gas once. He knew it was a Cougar and that alone made my day.

I get the same comment:

"That car is too big for a 4 cyl."

I also get a LOT of people who absolutely do not believe that it came stock with a 5-speed. Some of them come around after you I tell them that it is basically a Thunderbird Turbo Coupe in Mercury clothing but they still question the 5-speed part.

"All Cougars of that era were automatics, someone must have changed it before you bought it."

By that time I just give up, it's no use trying to convince them otherwise. :shakehead:

At Speedway stations here in ohio they come over the intercom and say "go ahead pump 7"  Well this particular girl was also saying the names of the cars.

"GO AHEAD PUMP 7 WITH THE WHITE JAGUAR!"

Man I laughed my ass off all the way to paying her.  She was really red.  But Hey she was cute!

That's classic. Try to show off and wind up making an a$$ of yourself. Get her number?

Reminds me of when I last took my car for emissions.
A girl was running the lane I was in and when I pulled up, some high school drop-out asked me if the car was rear or front drive. After I told him that it was rear, she got all pen 15y and said "I could have told you that." She then proceeded to point out all the cars in line that were rear, front or 4x4. After her little showing off, she put the tubes on my exhaust for the sniffers but she missed one. Apparently she didn't look enough to see that I have dual exhaust and the steam coming off the pipes was not enough for her to get a clue.

Hmmm, one of the chefs at my work was like whoa is that the crazy turbocharged 4-banger?

I think it throws a lot of people of that our cars don't actually have Manufacturer logos on them.  I know a lot of people have regocnized my car but they thought it was a Dodge Thunderbird.  I can imagine the same goes for the Cougars as well.  Oh well.  I love my car, nd no mater what anyone calls it I still feel like I drive a classy car.  The fact that it is pseudo-fast (hopefully I'll be changing that soon) is just a plus.

Everyone I meet at shows thinks that mine is a Turbo Coupe and that I put the 5.0 in there :screwy: . When I tell them that if you didn't get a Turbo Coupe you either had a V6 or a 5.0 then they ask me if its a turbo 5.0:brick: .

For some reason my Bird tends to attract hot girls when I'm driving it though:D  (I know it's not me it has to be the car).

Noone belives that my cougars came with 5.0's. I had a camero guy corner me at the gas station cause I used to have a 5.0 sticker.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.
