Locking 3.08

does anyone know where i can find a locking 3.08 differential? i'm sick of my right tire always spinning on turns. oh and also i know this isn't the room to do it in but would anyone know the average cost for an h.o. v8 swap because the 3.8 is pretty underpowered. thanks.

Only place I know of where you might find a trak-lok 3.08 would be out of a Mustang...unless Thunderbirds ever came with those gears? I know the Turbo Coupe didn't, and I don't really know if all V8's had trak-loks or not.

A rear that would fit perfectly would be from an '88 Cougar XR-7. It's an 8.8 traction lock w/ 3.08 gears.
Junk yard would be the best place to find one but not the easiest.

Your question is kind of vague, but I'll take a stab at it.

My local pullapart has EFI 5.0's galore that can be had for $130 - may or may not run, and possibly an HO if you wait for one to show up or just get lucky.

Unless you have a generous friend, thats probably as cheap as youre going to get a whole motor (complete top to bottom, with all accessories)

my HO conversion had cost me 'bout 50 bucks. basically free (traded some other stuff i got for free) free intake, tb, headers, and about 50 bucks for the heads, cam and sd computer. doesnt count cost of gaskets and small stuff.

I'm guessing your car has a 7.5" rear as it is a 3.8 equipped car.  for a 3.08 trak-lok that would fit in your current rear you could look in some 87 and 88 cougars and t-birds equipped with the 5.0.  If your looking for 3.27's I've heard the 3.8 cougars and t-birds that had the tow package (they also had the larger rear drums) had them.
