Using Big Tires only in front..

Dad is getting crazy or so, because he wants to buy new tires for the explorer, but he only wants to buy 2 new tires. Actually the truck has 235 75 15 all round, and he wants 31*10.5 15LT in the front and....the same old 235 75 in the back. I told him "the truck would look ridiculous" "the front would lift more and you drag more air" "You cant damage the 4WD system using diferent tire sizes" and other truth and lies, but he didnt understand, etc etc....

I want to know some drawbacks (yes, drawbacks) of using bigger tires on Suvs. I want to avoid this stupid idea....

I think driving in 4WD with different size tires on front and back would cause stress on the transfer case.

And yes, it would look ridiculous.

As far as using bigger tires, in general, saying if you used bigger tires all around, you may get better gas mileage (not by much) but acceleration wouldn't be as good as with smaller tires.  In snow (I know this doesn't concern you, being in Mexico) I know thinner tires are better to dig down.

thats going to look funny...

if it is awd also it will destroy the transfer case.

otherwise run it in 2wd only. till you get a matching set of tires

tell him to buy the tires, and a new transfercase for when he blows his up after driving on the new tires for a while.

get a big fish, hit him with it. when he asks why, tell him it makes about as much sense as doing the stupid tire idea.
