It's official, the TC is gonna die

Since I bought it I was torn between tearing it apart and using the parts to make the 88 5.0 car better (which is actually what I bought it for to begin with) and fixing it up, something I didn't really want to do because I don't need two Thunderbirds and the white one is getting fixed up come hell or highwater. I just felt guilty killing a TC until I found the crack. The front subframe, right where the k-member bolts to it, is cracked, ed near broken in half. The inner strut tower is rusted all along the bottom and pretty much detached from the subframe.

Yes, it could probably be fixed, but to me it ain't worth it when the fact that the rest of the car needs major bodywork is factored in. The car will die, but its donated organs will help enrich the life of my white 88 'Bird...

hey there's an idea.  if any car dies, it should be along the road because you flipped it or blew the engine because of high rpms.  i say: don't let it die...kill it.

Yeah, I already had one "die" (The Volvo on Christmas day - I hope to finally get it back tomorrow with its new engine). Trust me - I will be quite actively killing this Turbo Coupe

I'm not gonna go jumping it or anything, though - I want the suspension out of it more than anything, so I'm not gonna break it...

Having searched for ten years for a TC in any shape (no joke - TC's, in fact, any older cars, are very rare in salt-heavy Nova Scotia. I was extremely lucky to find the white 88 car) and just happening to come across one when I just happened to have money, I doubt you'd be willing to pay what it would take to take this car off my hands :D

I will likely be deciding what's going for sale in a few weeks (depending on the weather). It's an '87, 5-speed, 120k miles.

And while it saddens me that this TC is gonna die, remember that it has basically been on life support for several years. It is rusty. Very rusty. Not worth fixing rusty. And you can take comfort in the knowledge that it didn't go to "Some Mustang guy that's just gonna take the rear end and junk the rest", as the lady that sold it to me said. The death of this TC, while sad, will make my '88 5.0 a better car (in fact, a better car than the TC ever could hope to be again, considering the 88's got just 62k miles and is in near perfect condition). It is giving its life for a worthy cause...

yeah i can understand that. Hey, since you already have a 5.0 in the other bird, are you going to sell the motor? If so let me know how much you want for it, and if you will ship it then my zip code is 30507. My TC is down with a bhg, but with all the leaks and shiznit, i am probably just going to rebuild. I would love to buy that motor off you. Let me know man, thanks.

Holy Sh*T! I thought we had bad rust problems in Chicago but  that's severe. That's why my T-bird sits in the garage in the winter:tg: .

I'm keeping the headlights (they were a month old). As for the other lights, they are pretty badly yellowed and hazed (just like the ones on my car) so probably not worth selling. I'm just gonna hang onto 'em for spares - I had a hell of a time replacing one that fell apart on the white 88 this past summer.
