Hood props and Hood springs. December 26, 2005, 02:10:56 PM Ok I've never really go the whole deal on this. What was the deciding factor on a car getting a hood prop or hood springs? My 88 Cougar has springs that hold the hood up but I've seen some of your guys cars that have hood props. Quote Selected
Hood props and Hood springs. Reply #1 – December 26, 2005, 03:27:55 PM they should interchange pretty easy. 83-86 had prop rods, and the 87-88's had springs. Quote Selected
Hood props and Hood springs. Reply #2 – December 26, 2005, 03:31:15 PM In the 1984 dealership brochure listed hood assist spring hinges as standard equipment but that was never the case. No Cougar/T-Bird got them until 1987, to the best of my knowledge. The hinges can indeed be interchanged. Quote Selected
Hood props and Hood springs. Reply #3 – December 26, 2005, 03:33:10 PM Can a Mark's hinges/springs be used on a Bird or Cougar? Thinking about parting out my '88 LSC soon, and I wouldn't mind using its hinges on the '86 T-bird. Quote Selected
Hood props and Hood springs. Reply #4 – December 26, 2005, 04:07:51 PM I was always curious as to why the '87-88 Thunderbird/Cougar had the hood springs, but the Mustang NEVER got them even clear up to 2004 (do the '05's have springs or struts or something like that?).I sure do like em on my car though...much better than working around that prop rod. I have them on the convertible....with the fiberglass hood, the factory 1987-88 hinges were too powerful. The Mark VII part just bolts on...piece of cake. Quote Selected
