How do you "use" it?

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

You use it by clicking on the little scales icon in the upper right corner of every post. It gives you the option of approving or disapproving of a post, and the option to leave a comment. Either way, it's anonymous unless you leave your name in the comment section. (which rarely happens) If you have that person on ignore, it registers as a blank entry, neither approve (green) or disapprove. (red)

Mainly it ends up being a tool for people who want to get a dig in on someone they disagree with.. to get that one extra little jab in that they couldn't get in an argument or whatever.

I've never really cared what my rep was on any board.. but I do take delight (on forums I don't give a  about.. which are most of them that aren't this place) in randomly giving out negative responses to people I have nothing against and no argument with, just to see them bitch. They often do. My experiences with it on other forums are why I recommend getting rid of it on here. Most of us are above the head-games, (and I wouldn't screw with this place like that, I like it here too much.. should've been obvious with the donation drive that I don't treat this place like I treat the average forum) and caring about such things.. but if we get more people who aren't, it's just one more excuse for things to get ugly more often. That we have one person bitching about supposed "post-whoring" already (a sort of related and unrelated topic) should be a sign that the more sensitive types are on their way.

Can we replace it with the Age display?

Age isn't necessarily the best indication of maturity and what not. The two most immature people I've ever met were both between 40 and 45 years old at the time. Not saying everyone that age is immature.. but the point is, you can't just go by age alone.

Have there actually been any members taking rep and post count to heart? :bs:

I find it hard to believe anyone in this group would get riled up over board stats.

Well, stuntmannick apparently feels strongly enough about it to have suggested that we eliminate Lounge posts from the post counts. As if anyone here posts in the Lounge just to inflate their post count. Where do people come up with this ?

The only time I ever even look at my post count, is when someone else brings it up.

I kind of like looking at how many posts I have made.  Not to shove it in anyone else's face, but just as a measurement of how much time I waste on here.  :)

So if you do decide to disable public viewing of post counts, which I don't see a need to do, please make them privately viewable if that is an option.

I think this thread is as pointless at the rep system. lol... not to ruffle any feathers with that comment, but come on, who cares about how many posts we've made or how many rep points we have? We're all here for one reason, to have fun and enjoy our cars.

There's my two cents. lol

Unfortunately, the existence of bitching (in another thread) about things like post count would seem to contradict your statement that we're all just here to have fun and enjoy our cars..

I'm suggesting it be dealt with sooner rather than later.. so more of this  doesn't pop up in the future. There are enough things to bitch about (in general) without having to fabricate reasons like so-called "post whoring" and "rep whoring".

I think the best way to deal with it would be for whiners to SUCK IT UP! These issues only matter to the bitchees.

Post counts are listed in the Public Profile. (to read your own, find one of your posts and click on your name) If you were to disable post counts on posts themselves, would you not still have this available for mod/admin use? Seems like a decent compromise.

As for the rep stuff: Seems like quite a few people want it gone, and I'm guessing several of the positive or neutral posts are from people who just don't give a shiznit. (so wouldn't exactly miss it if it went away.. remember, we didn't exactly ask for it or need it in the several months before it was added) The two threads about these issues seem to be running into overtime. Any chance we can wrap this up soon, toss these two threads out, and get back to our regularly-scheduled quasi-reality?

Personally, I don't give a  what my rep is, or what your reps are.. (been running through these posts the past couple days just spamming in "Free rep!" with copy and paste for cheap laughs) same with post counts.. but if doing these changes will prevent more of this  later on, let's "git 'r done". Please.
