I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

Go with the 88 man, I've got one with 230k miles on it.  Also I've never heard of one of those blowing a headgasket.  But someone probably has.

I don't know about that. My 5.0 Bird has abosolutly rapped 3.8 MN-12 Birds and Cougars when they've tried to "run me" .

Based on what you guys have said I'm going to be looking for a decent 88 Bird or Cat. I'm still kicking myself in the butt about that Bird I had the opportunity to buy. It was an 88 3.8, mint body, and 37,000 miles:brick: I bought a Buick instead, which I'm giving to my brother. Oh well live and learn.

How do you figure that? The MN12 chassis is heavier than the Fox, and the 3.8 is less powerful than your 5.0. If your mom's 3.8 Cougar is keeping up with your 5.0 'Bird you'd better make sure all your plug wires are on...

yeah, 140 hp 3.8 v-6 in a car that starts at 3800lbs, or a 150 hp car that is around 3400lbs with gobs more torque.

If you're looking for a nice MN12, look for a '96-'97. They seem to have all the best options. I love my '96, and it hasn't given me any trouble in the 1.5 years that I've owned it.

I always thought that the 96-97s were the best looking of the MN-12s. I'de still get a 3.8 one for fuel economy though. I might not be able to afford a 96-97 though because I think I'll have about $2,000 for another Bird/Cat by fall so that rules out pretty much any MN-12 built after 93. I'm still thinking about an 88 FOX 3.8 Bird or Cat though. The car could get free upgrades from my 5.0 Bird when I change out parts (like the sway bars) for better ones:banana:
