Interesting piece 'o metal there.. but probably wouldn't cause me to alter my plans if I could get it. I would like to see someone here make use of it, though.. just to see it.

Thats for sure, It'd be useless on about any street(able) engine...

Would be good for a high winder with a manual transmission, but with a stock torque converter and gears it would be a waste of time...

Wasn't that an old NASCAR manifold? I know nothing about stock car racing, but wasn't there a V6 division, and that manifold was made for that division? I seem to remember seeing it in an old Ford Motorsports catalogue, along with aftermarket heads that, strangely enough, would only bolt onto an aftermarket block (they wouldn't fit a regular 3.8)...

So the heads and manifold are made for an aftermarket block only?  Did they ever make a performance oriented manifold for the stock block?  Seems a lot of 3.8 stuff you have to empty your wallet for some oomph.....Just like Ford's modular motors!:hick:

Warning: Pre-coffee jibber-jabber to follow..

How well would the Holley 390 CFM 4-barrel work on that? (a 4160, I think)

I stumbled onto this equation over at Allpar.com while reading up on the truck, and it goes a little something like this:

(Displacement x max RPM) / 3456 = CFM, x .85 for street use

232 x 6000 / 3456 = 402.777, x .85 = 342.361 CFM

For comparison, my own numbers came out:

318 x 6000 / 3456 = 552.083, x .85 = 469.270 CFM

(I was looking into the 470 CFM Truck Avenger carb, which if this is accurate would seem perfect.. IF I went with a 4-barrel intake and carb swap)

Of course, as you can see, this is all just numbers. I haven't messed with a carb for probably 15 years now.. and actual use could be far different from these numbers for all I know. Not sure how this would compare to sticking with CFI, (if you were going to build a 3.8) even with jcassity's HO-CFI swap.. or with going with a Holley 2-barrel in place of the CFI. To go off on a tangent here, is there really any measurable advantage for a 4-barrel over a 2-barrel if they're both the same CFM rating?

Personally, if I were intent on building an Esshag, I think I would want to just find a newer 4.2 and be done with it.

I wonder if that's an Offenhauser manifold? Offy used to make a four barrel intake for the 2.3L also, in fact a guy was selling one at WFC a few years back for $120.

Thunder Chicken, I know what class you're talking about. I can't remember the name...AAS maybe? I used to have a model car that was based off a car in this class. It was a Camaro body with a V6 in it. I don't know what vehicle Ford ran in that class. I can't find my Ford Motorsport catalog, but in the back of it where they list all the different engines that they've made over the years, they have some Motorsport V6's listed in there. I'm bettin at least one of them is from series.

Now that you metion it I do remeber a Busch Grand National class that was a V6 class. Ford used a odd ball 4.5L 90* V6.
I think they made it into some trucks in diesel form.

Its most likely the morana piece, since it appears to work with the later model heads, i might do some further investigation, but it looks as if they work with 88+ heads. In 88, they had some revisions.

If you were to buy it, and used 88+ heads, youd have to plug the injector holes.
It's Gumby's fault.
