Trunk light November 29, 2005, 02:57:10 PM Can anyone give me a hint on how the trunk light functions? I pulled the retainer out and the bulb keeps flickering when I move the thing around. The contacts are nice and clean. I'm guessing the retainer has something to do with it turning off when the lid's closed, as I left it danging out the back with a closed trunk - it stayed lit. Care to enlighten me?I'm going to be installing dual 12" white ccfl's as trunk lighting ($5) and need to figure out how the thing switches on/off Quote Selected
Trunk light Reply #1 – November 29, 2005, 03:01:08 PM ...its internal fluid, isn't it... tilt up, doesn't work, tilt down, it works Quote Selected
Trunk light Reply #3 – November 29, 2005, 03:03:06 PM yeah, so I'll have to keep the switch in place and run a wire back to where the speakers are located Quote Selected
Trunk light Reply #4 – November 29, 2005, 03:22:40 PM I have found the mercury switches to be a bit unreliable. When they go bad, the switches get stuck on and your light stays on 24/7. And that's also one hell of a draw on your battery. It's the same for the hood light too. What you want to do will work with the switch...just keep an eye on it. Quote Selected
Trunk light Reply #5 – November 29, 2005, 03:55:45 PM Seems like mine should have more fluid in it also. Why does it say betaon the side? :flame: The angle of the trunk lid, it doesn't always stay lit with the lid up, it flickers.Anyways, the ccfl's only draw 50mA (supposedly) although I'm guessing thats for each. They came as dual packs, yet say the same 50mA as the single packs. Its too bad the 4" ones are pretty pathetic in comparison to the 12. They don't glare the eyes as much as the 12. Per inch, the light output seems about half. They'll work fine above the rear armrests though.on a related trunk topic, just got one of my 2 Infinity 6x9's ($40) in to replace these (bought for $30): http://www.cartoys.com/Default.cfm/p/SE8373_5x7_3_Way_Speakers/, being held up by a bungee cord. They seem to be a bit louder at the same volume location, although supposedly they're slightly less effiecient.*shrugs* Quote Selected
