Yeah, I was suprised about that too. It well run slightly better on 93 octane..but no pinging on 87. The funning thing is that when I put my HO motor in, the distributor was cracked so I yanked it and slid my old distributor in as close as I could get it. Once I got the car running(didn't check the timing for like 6months after-I was lazy for a while), it was dead on 10 degrees base, I cranked it to 14*, then at the track one day, I cranked it a little more...too bad my timing pointed had fallen off on my way to the track

So, I may be giving up a little power by running too much advance... I need a timing pointer...lol.

It'll run better if you swap the wires and right now you run the risk of scorching a piston.

Not from what I've read about this... According to a article on the net(shoulda bookmarked it), if the injector lead are switched to the correct firing order it will run better temporarly. What happens is the EEC tries to adjust the mixture but when it increases(or decreases) the pulsewith of the switched injectors it sees a change with a opposite cylinder, so trys to correct that one. What happens is the EEC eventually maxes out on it's corrections and part of the cylinders are 25% rich and part are 25% lean... At least with it connected as is, the EEC can accuratly adj the air/ fuel ratio...

I thought the EEC could only adjust PW (duty cycle) on either bank (4 cylinders per O2 sensor). Not sure why changing the wiring would cause the EEC to lose it's ability to adjust air/fuel. Well, unless it gets confused as to which cylinders are part of a "bank" of 4 - hmmm, perhaps that is a problem then...

These cars are SEFI....I believe you are thinking of bank or batch injection.

*Edit* Speaking of which just how would say an 88 F-150 respond if you fed it an HO cam?

Apparently no difference... The 5.0 and 5.8 use the same two pins(58 & 59) on the EEC to fire four injectors at once. The same injectors are tied together on each engine..

Not that it applies here, but a buddy of mine just inst HO 5.0 in his 85.5 F-150(port fuel inj). With sone goodies from me, he's wired up a SEFI setup using a LSC injector harness and '87 SD Stang EEC... It runs a lot stronger than the old truck 5.0.. Working on a 5 speed swap for it now...
