Keeping tires from flatspotting during storage

So this year, I decided to store my car in a slightly different manner than I have the last two years. Before, I kept it in a small shed by my dad's house that was open on one side, with a car cover on it, and had a gravel floor. But I don't trust the roof on the shed (it's already buckled from a heavy snowfall we had in 2003) and my brother's got so much junk in there that I didn't feel like moving it all. So, this year I have it on a section of concrete (old county road that runs through our property) with a car cover and tarp over it. Since the car is gonna be sitting til at least March, I don't want the tires to get flatspotted from sitting on the concrete. What can I put under them to prevent this? I have some old rubber floor mats I could cut up and put 1 or 2 (or 3) pieces under each tire. Would that work? I don't really want to put the car up on jackstands all winter.

When I had my car parked on the gravel in that shed, I never moved it once the whole time it was in there, from december til around the beginning of april...never had a problem with the tires, though I know gravel isn't quite the same as concrete, but still...

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

If you don't want to do jackstands, you could get yourself a cheap set of used wheels and tires and stick them on the car while it sits.
Jackstands would probably be cheaper though.

:iagree:  When I store mine for the winter I just put the set of tires the car came with on and let it sit on those for 5 months. The car came with factory wire wheels:yuck:  and those seem to work good for storage tires. If you take the tires off you have on there off be sure to stack them like pan cakes to prevent them from going out of shape. I stack mine in 2 stacks of 2 in my atic while the Bird is in the garage for 5 months and I have had no problems with the tires when I put them back on.

I do have an extra set of wheels and tires, but...hell, for all the trouble those would be to change out I might as well just buy another set of jackstands and put it up on them. Guess I'll have to see how much they cost.

I bought some heavy duty suv stands at walmart for something like $15 or so.
It's not that difficult to change a tire. You can do it. I'd personally do that rather than support the car up on stands.
Since you have another set of tires, it is a free solution. Unless they aren't mounted.

Wellllll honestly these are tires I have mounted on an extra set of 10-holes...they used to be on my Mustang. The tires still have some tread on them so I like to have them around as spares (in fact I ran them on my bird most of this last summer because I couldn't afford new tires for it).

Jackstands it is.

I work at sears so maybe I can get a deal :)
