I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

I'd actually like to have one, just for the sake of having one (and $4/gallon gas is an incentive as well). I wonder if that engine has any aftermarket tuning support, being a BMW and all? I think they were rated for 130 horses and about 270 pound feet, which compares well with the CFI 5.0 SO. I wonder if one could be made to make HO-type power? Torque would be no problem...

Hey guys,
They made the BMW-turbo diesel I6 Mark for the '84 and '85 model years.  It was a 2.4 I6, same engine as a BMW 524TD, I think.  They all had a ZF auto tranny and dual exhaust (one "exhaust" was for the turbo wastegate).  I've read some reports that said those cars would get well into the 30's or almost 40 mpg, and still had decent power.  I'd like to have one, too, just because it's different and rare.  These cars weren't LSC's from what I remember, but mostly Bill Blass's, etc., with whitewalls, wire wheels and all.  If I got one, I'd doll it up like a jet black LSC, kind of a reverse-sleeper.  Wonder if anybody in the BMW aftermarket has developed any of those miraculous diesel chips for that motor?  I've got to make the suggestion, since I don't think anybody else has: why doesn't somebody find one of these TD I6's and drop it in a Fox 'Bird or Cougar, again, just to be different?  Chuck, you picking up on this?

There are periodic mentions of the I6 Mark over at Lincolns Online. There's even a link to a page devoted to them somewhere in their Mark VII section, I think.

So what's with the sudden I6 interest from more of ya? :p
