Any ideas where I can get JUST a pipe?

Okay, here's the situation: I need to replace the y-pipe on my bird (3.8) but don't want to buy the cat converter.  I've called every parts place and online retailer I could find trying to buy just the y pipe w/out the cats.  For a visual aid, check out this item:  http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/83-88-Thunderbird-Cougar-Catalytic-Converter-OEM-NEW_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33629QQitemZ7913416865
I just want the freaking y-pipe and not have to pay 150 bucks for it!  I need a $50 part but am forced to spend an extra 100 on a cat that I don't NEED!!! :bs:

So.... anyone know someone who could hook me up? :D

Maybe you could have an exhaust shop make you one? I doubt you'd find any "off road" pipes for the V6...

It's not even that it's considered "off road".  They sell the cat separately, why not the pipe?  I dunno... it may be cheaper just to get the whole thing and not bolting on the cat than paying an exhaust shop to make one.

I had a 3.8 in my 'Bird before the engine swaps (yes, plural). With the 3.8,I took my car down and had duals with lers, crossover, and chrom tips installed from scratch for $190.00.That's a good deal. Most shops don't charge more than $200.00 for that process.

Do you have headers on it yet or is it still the exhaust manifolds?

you could probley get a mustang off road hpipe to work if it was bent for you, but i have no idea other than flowmaster where to get a catless ypipe. flowmaster makes the y collector, so you'd have to cut out your cat and weld this in.

My old '88 XR7 came with a Y-pipe and no converters. The previous owner always took the car to Midas. When the converter is 'no longer performing as intended', as Midas described it, it can legally get replaced, at least here in Ohio. So the Y-pipe was put in. Now this is 8-10 years ago but up until that point in time, you could get a pipe like that. Check ler shops and see if it can still be ordered. You would use the same Y-pipe for a 3.8 V6 and a 5.0 V8.

Looks like I may be getting an H-pipe from slamedcat, but I'll check into the ler shop thing and see what I can come up with.  Thanks everyone.
