new winter beater/daily driver

well, ive kept my eye out forever now just in case i happen to find a tempo GLS. well a few days ago i was driving through worcester and i thought out of the corner of my eye i saw what looked like one. so i made my buddy turn around. sure enough, at a tiny dealership, behind the shack and 2 rows af cars was the GLS. i cant belive i saw it. neither could the owner or my bud. well anyway, i asked if it was for sale and got the story on it. turns out he put it up on ebay. he would have taken it off for me but there was a bid on it and less than 24 hours to go. so, i went home and as always held off untill the last second and bid. the sweet part is i got the car for 102.50 !
 
the guy listed it for parts because he lost the keys and it needs some work as well. i know it needs brakes, windsheild, alt, tail light and maybe a heater core. i still couldnt pass it up though. ive only EVER seen 2 others not counting the one i used to own that my woman wrecked. they only made about 860 2 door 92 GLS cars. what makes it different is the 3.0 V6, the 5 speed manual gearbox and some small stuff like a wicked super hard to find body kit. this one here is identical to the one i used to have other than mine was mint. so it appeals to me being a little different than whats out there in general. same reason i love tbirds. theres always that possibility of dropping in an SHO engine but i think id rather see a 2.3 turbo or 5.0 in my ranger.
 
so, its a little bit of a project but i cant se it eating up more than 500 bucks to be good to go. im pretty excited. it was a fun little car to drive and it scooted right along to boot. it should feel like a porsche compared to the ranger. anyway...if ya got this far thanks for humoring me...i just needed to get it out....

Nothing wrong with that. It doesn't look bad at all.
Tempos are great little cars. In '89, mom bought a gold GL. That car was a little tank. It took just about everything we threw at it.

Interestingly enough, after my mom bought it about 2 months later, my grandmother got herself a Topaz.
What was really funny is the ignition key for the Tempo would open the trunk on the Topaz.

looks like a nice car...certainly for 100 bucks  how can you go wrong.......glad you found what you had been looking for...its always cool when that happens

Shame302, if you lik ethe GLS's you'd cry if you saw what my trade school did to one. It was just like the one you pictured except all black with grey interior, V6, 5-speed, had the body kit, A/C, and I'm not sure but I think it had power windows & locks, too (in other words, for a Tempo it was loaded). It was given to the school by FoMoCo, and it had 22 kilometers on it. That's twenty two (or about 14 miles).

We played with it a bit over the year, but toward the end of the year the government pulled funding for the school and it was to close forever in June. Now, part of the agreement between Ford and the school was that neither the car, nor any part of it was to ever leave the school grounds intact.

The school board also had a similar agreement with GM for an '83 Chevy C10 pickup and an '86 Buick Riviera (both also brand new with under 40 kilometers). The truck was just your basic CHevy half ton, 2WD, 305, TH350, but the Riviera was a technological showcase (for 1986) - all of its functions, including HVAC and radio, were controlled through a touch screen CRT. It had the power moonroof, leather guts (still wrapped in plastic), the 3800 engine, all digital gauges, etc.

The school board sent a shredder.

All three of these brand new vehicles were drained of their fluids, picked up by a big claw, and fed into the shredder. It was very sad to watch, but it was also kinda cool to watch the shredder do its stuff :D The whole school came out to watch the carnage, as did the high school next door.

ha...my buddy had an 88 topaz before i got my original gls. i would have never even looked at the car if i never driven his. anyway, both of out keys worked in each others ignition and my key worked in his doors.

yeah that deffinetly sucks. doesnt realy tweak me though like im sure it would some other people. reguardless how rare any car is, its still a hunk of recyclable steel...lol. thats life though. im supprised though. they must have not sold well (like all of the more obscure but great fords like the mark viii). thats probably why they made so few of them. while it was no rocketship, i had more fun in that car its unreal. i could leave a "posi" strip better than i could my turbo coupe and it took out an 89 mark vii, 84 mark vii, vw jetta wolfsburg, stick 93 probe gt, along with some other stuff. deffinetly fun litle car and no body expects it out of a tempo. deffinetly a neet little car for a friggin tempo. im still pretty suprised i even saw this one.

When I was in collage we had a 69 super bee 440 4speed all original 12 miles on the clock. Chrysler found out we still had it cam eback took it and restored it, because the paint was faded, and put it into a museum.

I have a set of those rims for my tempo also.
