2008 Dodge Challenger November 21, 2005, 12:21:31 PM Rising to the Challenger: Detroit auto show debut for Dodge muscle coupe conceptBOB GRITZINGERPosted Date: 11/20/05To all those purists who still can’t forgive Dodge for building a four-door Charger, here’s your answer: the 2006 Dodge Challenger concept. The Dodge boys released a sketch of the car to the world, but we obtained these exclusive spy photos of the car, which will premiere at the North American International Auto Show in January in Detroit.Challenger draws on the 1970 model as the icon of the series, says Tom Tremont of Chrysler’s Pacifica studio in California. But instead of merely recreating that car, designers tried to build the Challenger most people see in their mind’s eye, without imperfections like the tucked under wheels and long front overhang of the old car. At the same time, the concept incorporates distinctive Challenger cues like the rear fender kick, wide mouth front end, functional hood scoops and rectangular exhaust tips.Built on a shortened Chrysler 300/Dodge Charger chassis (116-inch wheelbase vs. 120 inches), the Challenger gets a 6.1-liter Hemi hooked to a six-speed manual transmission with a pistol grip shifter. All that’s left to ponder is “will they build it?” With all the hardware in place and a primed marketplace, we can’t see why Dodge wouldn’t rise to this challenge. 2008 Dodge Challenger Reply #1 – November 21, 2005, 12:45:35 PM WOW.If they actually build that, with those body lines, I might actually like Dodge. That's fuggin sweet.edit: although, after looking at the actual concept car in the very top pic, the grille opening with headlights looks too small...could just be the angle of the pic though. 2008 Dodge Challenger Reply #8 – November 21, 2005, 07:20:48 PM They're gonna make it. Dodge was pretty much experimenting with the Charger, which got it's mixed reviews but was successful none the less. Now they are going to be bringing the Challenger back and it looks like they are doing it right. Of course they're eyeing the major success that Ford is having with the Mustang.Challengers have always been my favorite cars. I'll be definately looking into one as by then, I should be into my career and should have plenty of money to throw around. High hopes I know.Did any of you happen to see what Dodge did at SEMA to a '70 Challenger?Sorry the pic is big. Heres the link to the rest.http://www.wkjeeps.com/sema.htmand a short little article with a few more picshttp://www.autoblog.com/entry/1234000270066570/ Quote Selected

Now maybe Chevy and/or Pontiac will build a early Camero/Firebird knockoff.. Quote Selected
2008 Dodge Challenger Reply #12 – November 21, 2005, 09:50:05 PM That looks really good, and Im sure Dodge wont fail to deliver the power, they never do. Those Hemi's and V10 engines are pretty sick.Hopefully Ford can work on extracting more power from these mod motors without needing to use a supercharger. As of now, both GM and Dodge are utilizing an OHV powerplant which is plenty capable of 500+ HP, Ford relies on a poweradder. I'll take HP as I can get it, but still something to be aware of. 2008 Dodge Challenger Reply #13 – November 21, 2005, 09:51:40 PM I'm just wondering if they'll end up pricing it at $30K like the charger. If they do, then it won't compete with the Mustang any better than the GTO is. Quote Selected
