HEI hookup

I'm installing a HEI distributor made my Procomp and they neglected to put any instructions in with it.  What I've been able to figure out about installing it is mostly myth and legend but I'm guessing the BATT terminal gets hooked to a + wire and the TACH terminal grounds to the frame.  But what about the ignition control module?  It seems to be hooked into more than just the coil and the distributor, what do I do with it?

ok man

the BAT+ side goes to a 12v switched source like you factory + coil wire

the wires from the module go straight into the coil nothing else

the Tach terminal goes to a tach if you are not using one do not connect it to anything...

Ok I get that part but what about the OLD ignition module?  My Chilton manual has every wiring diagram except for the 83 5.0 surprise surprise.  The module has 2 plugs, one I've identified as the one connecting it to the dist and coil, can I just unplug that plug?  Do I unplug both?  Do I need to reroute something else?  The 83 3.8 diagram suggests that the module is also connected to the starter.  I can hook up the new dist but obviously I don't want the old ignition to keep firing.
