Heat problems in 86TC. Please help Its 17deg out Reply #5 – November 20, 2005, 07:43:46 PM I had this same problem last winter and found one of the metal coolant lines on my 5.0 that runs under the upper intake was starting to collapse on a bend. The inside had started to rust out and there were no signs of leaks. My guess is the metal had gotten really thin and for some reason kinked up causing a blockage. My hoses were getting hot but, they were not getting enough fluid. You could also check for a pinhole in the hoses too. I've seen it where hoses have a pinhole that won't leak at idle but, they will leak if you give the car a little gas causing the lines to get a little pressure. Quote Selected

Heat problems in 86TC. Please help Its 17deg out Reply #7 – November 20, 2005, 09:40:16 PM i've replaced the cap with a new one at the same time as everything else. could be a limited flow thing i know it being a turbo motor it has coolant going through the turbo and the oil cooler but i have tried to blow air through all the metal lines and everything seems fine Quote Selected
Heat problems in 86TC. Please help Its 17deg out Reply #8 – November 21, 2005, 05:22:21 PM Sounds like you've pretty much have it covered... If the controll linkage is OK(going fully to the heat mode), likely the problem is a partally blocked heater core. Several times foward & reverse flushing it with a water hose may help, if not you'll need to repl the core. In situations like this, just run the heater blower on the low speed. You'll get more heat, as the high speeds will blow the air through the core without heating it... Quote Selected

Heat problems in 86TC. Please help Its 17deg out Reply #10 – November 21, 2005, 10:56:08 PM My car is doing something similar. The temp has really dropped around here and I noticed the car wont heat up like it should. Just mediocre heat from the heater core and the engine temp takes a LONG time to rise, and even then it is not all the way. I am pretty darn sure the fan clutch is always engaged. Even when the engine is cold and at idle, the fan is on blowing a hell of a lot of air throught the radiator. Something easy to check for ya. Quote Selected

Heat problems in 86TC. Please help Its 17deg out Reply #12 – November 21, 2005, 11:24:22 PM thanks army guy but it has an electric fan.And as far as a bad T-stat. i checked the old one by placing it in a pot of water and heating it up and it opened as it should so the original one was good while it was doing the same thing so i would think the new one would be good as well. Maybe the car just doesn't warm up being this cold out. I know if the temp is up in the 30's or 40's the heat seems to work pretty good.I had similar py heat in my 91 2.3 n/a mustang Quote Selected
