Coca-Cola=No Santa

I noticed about a week or two ago that the holiday pen 15e cans started coming into the stores. But Santa was missing. The Polar Bears are on the cans now. Now while I like the pen 15e Polar Bears, they don't deserve Santa's spot. Please tell me I'm not the only one traumatized by this. :(

Dooooo, I know that silly.
I'm just saying that the image of Santa is a staple with Coca-Cola and I can't believe they are ousting that in favor of the bears. Supposedly they are still using the Santa image for advertising but it wasn't good enough for the actual product? It just doens't make sense to me.

Seriously, if they want to throw religion into it, there should be no Christmas music on the radio, no companies or cities decorationg with Christmas lights and if they really want to be extreme, don't sell items at stores relating to Christmas. It's rediculous.
I'm by no means a super religious person but what gives.

**EDIT: This is not meant to offend anyone nor to get in a religion battle. It just surprised me**

NEWS FLASH: Santa Claus, or at least Santa as we know him, is not a religious figure. I'm not religious by any stretch of the imagination, but the last I checked, Christmas is supposed to celebrate the birth of Christ, not give an excuse to spend the family fortune on the kids in the name of a fat guy that doesn't exist. The jolly fat man with the white beard and rosy cheeks in the red suit was invented by Coca Cola back in the early 20th century.

Like I said - I'm not religious at all - in fact, organized religion of any stripe is about the tops in things I'm against, but I'll be ed if I would try to prevent Christians from celebrating Christmas. Religious or not, that's a CHRISTMAS tree in my living room (well, not yet), not a "holiday" tree.

I agree as well, Bear prolly took over due to the fact its easier to sell cute bears to kids rather than an old man that most kids know isnt real anyway

Believe it or not, Coca-Cola actually OWNS the rights to the classic red with white fur trim Santa image!
It seems that Coca-Cola is the company years ago that came up with the big red suit with white trim, and that particular interpretation has been owned by them ever since.

See thats the thing. I don't see Santa as a religious figure at all. pen 15e basically created the character to appear as we see him today. I just don't understand why they would kill their own thing that they created like that. It has been like a tradition for the character of Santa to appear around the holiday season. Why break it now and then talk about bringing him back maybe next year?

It shouldn't be a religious issue at all. I really don't understand it if they claim they removed him for religious reasoning. Especially since he is supposed to appear in some of their other advertising.

Tell that to the Political Correctness patrol.  Like you said Santa is associated with Christmas which is supposed to be a religious holiday.  Santa is not a religious figure but, I guess because he is supposed to bring Christmas gifts then we can't have his image on a pen 15e can because it might offend someone who doesn't have the same religious beliefs as those who celebrate Christmas.  GIMME A BREAK ALREADY!!!

I don't have any religious beliefs, but I celebrate Christmas (and I call it Christmas, and I respect Christian's beliefs for celebrating it). Hell, anything that gives someboody an excuse to buy me a new digital camera is A-1 in my books :D

Ya gotta laugh at the double standards that exist today, though - if I said Hannuka offends me I'd be branded an anti-semite, but if I said Christmas does, lawmakers would bend over backwards to remove "Christ" from "Christmas" to prevent my being offended...

Santa Clause was a religious figure. He just had nothing to do with Christmas until pen 15e got their hands on him. Well, at least the way we see him now. He was a Saint, remember. They tend to be religious. ;)

His origins go back to quite a few places, including Scandanavia, where it is believed the jolly gift giver was inspired by Thor.

But St. Nicholas has been celebrated alongside Christmas for a lot longer than pen 15e can lay claim to. But he was humbler in the fact that he brought a small wooden toy, (in some places in Europe, he brought sticks to the children rather than toys) and not a new wardrobe and more gadgets than you know what to do with.

In other words, Santa is the embodiement of giving, not a source for your new Xbox 360. :flip:

Carmen's right. Christmas is about the birth of Christ. Santa is just a way of bringing all walks of life to this holiday.

Read up. :)
