Another Riddle of the day November 18, 2005, 12:25:18 PM I like the riddle of the day so im going to try and keep it going. Heres your riddle. It is not a trick question it is purely logic.Three people are standing on some stairs. They are each wearing a hat. They are only allowed to face forwards, so they cannot see the color of their own hat, only the color of the hat of the one or two people in front of them (depending in which position they are). The hats they are wearing have been chosen from a pile of two red hats and two blue hats. All three men will be shot in one minute unless one of them shouts out (correctly!) the colour of their own hat. Who shouts out and how do they know the color of their hat? Quote Selected
Another Riddle of the day Reply #1 – November 18, 2005, 12:46:17 PM Well, the guy in position 1 would have the best chance of being right. Seeing as there are 4 total hats, 2 red and 2 blue, if the men in spots 2 and 3 both have blue, he would shout red and be correct. If they both had red on, he would shout out blue and be correct. But if guy 2 had a red hat and guy 3 had a blue hat or visa-versa, there would be a fifty percent chance that guy 1 would be right. But if he could see the other hat on the floor that nobody is wearing, he would be right regardless.I don't know. I suck at riddles. :dunno: Quote Selected
Another Riddle of the day Reply #2 – November 18, 2005, 12:57:24 PM Actaully your very close, Keep in mind the remainig hats cannot be seen. So we know (1) could call out if 2 and 3 are wearing the same color and save them but what if 2 and 3 have on different color hats? Quote Selected

Another Riddle of the day Reply #8 – November 18, 2005, 01:45:10 PM I think I got it..#1 sees that the that 2 and 3 have the same hats.. he'll shout out his hat being the opposite colour... But if he doesn't that means that number 2 and 3 are different.So in that case. number 2 waits to see if number 1 remains silent. If so.. then number 2 knows his hat is different then number 3's.. so he shouts out the opposite colour that number 3 has.gotta love being a programmer and having to deal with logic on a daily basis ;) Quote Selected
