goes dead.... Reply #1 – November 08, 2005, 09:10:43 AM Ok few questions, is it carbed or FI, Have you checked your timing, Plugs. Every engine requires 3 things to run, Fuel, spark and air. You already corrected the fuel. Next place i would check would be the spark, Check timing make sure its correct, Cap rotor and ignition module. What was wrong with the fuel source, are you sure you corrected it, If it sat for a couple years prolly a good idea to replace the filters and check all the lines, I actually had copuppiess in my fuel line when i bought the 85. Reply #2 – November 08, 2005, 09:19:20 AM -its a fuelie. filters replaced. have not touched anything on the engine yet. its getting spark and timing is ok, as before i solved the fuel problem, you can spray gas or starting fluid thru the air cleaner and it will fire off and run until they burn out.......:flame: Quote Selected

If you do see fuel I would put a preasure gauge on it to see how much, check your injectors (not to familiar with FI) but i belive they have little screens on them that will clog. Quote Selected

goes dead.... Reply #5 – November 08, 2005, 10:09:37 AM If you have pressure at the rail, tap the fuel injectors with a screwdriver handle. Sometimes if they sit they get gummed up and stuck closed. Had to help a couple buddies out with cars that sat and we went through everything to verify fuel and spark and still no fire...tapped the injectors and vroom..... Quote Selected

goes dead.... Reply #7 – November 08, 2005, 03:45:23 PM Just give them a tap before you try and start it, or tap on them while someone else trys to start it. Yeah they're hard to get to, but you don't have (or want) to wail on them.Other than that you need to pull them and have them cleaned perhaps Quote Selected
goes dead.... Reply #8 – November 08, 2005, 03:59:01 PM If you're saying it dies the instant you let off the key, replace the ignition switch (the actual switch, not the keyed cylinder.) Ford ignition switches are notorious for coming apart and causing all sorts of electrical problems. If the car runs (even for a second) after releasing the key, then you have to go through the normal fuel/spark diagnostics.Good luck,Keith Quote Selected
goes dead.... Reply #9 – November 08, 2005, 04:00:11 PM go to your ground cable on the battery, there should be the thick wire, then a thinner wire, follow the thinner wire, it will run to the body, then from the body to a connector, make sure that connector is connected, thats the EEC ground Quote Selected

goes dead.... Reply #11 – November 09, 2005, 11:21:54 AM thanks for all the help guys, i finally got it to start and idle last night. i still had to put my foot on the gas though. you wouldnt believe how smooth it idled for a engine that hadnt run in 2-3 years and looked like molasses in the oil pan. i'm assuming:giggle: that the fuel system must have had some blockage in it and the fuel pressure and fresh fuel eventually cleaned it out. it's still a little hard to start, but at least it will. chuck if it hadnt started when it did i would have tried the injector tap...now we can commence t clean up and making it road worthy....thanks Quote Selected
