1984 Project Cougar

First off, hello everyone. I have been going to cool cats for quite some time and just recently decided to join this forum. Here is my 1984 Cougar LS.

History of the Cat.
I got the car about 2 years ago while I was in highschool, for only $1,000. The body was in perfect shape, it only had 89,000 miles on it and it had a 5.0 with Throttle Body Injection. I could not tell if it had an aftermarket moonroof or not, but the seal had a small leak. On the top of the roof, the paint was severly cracked and worn. The interior is what really drew me in. The cat had and still has a perfect maroon interior with full digital dash.

I got this cat for one reason, to turn it into a muscle car that would turn heads. My dad already had an 88 cat that we worked on and that is where I fell in love with the car. My first thing to fix on the list was the exhaust. At the time I worked at Taco Bell and could only afford flowmaster ler to replace the old rusted (possible original!) ler. After that it brought out the growl in the cat. Happy with my purchase I went to get 4 brand new tires, and some fluids, wires, plugs. To do a tune up and oil change. That was done! I was very happy with my work and the cat all together.

Then......

While driving home from work on a normal night 1 AM. Going on a country 55 MPH road I saw two pairs of eyes glowing near the road.    This all happend in what felt like less than a second. The two deer ran out, I hit the breaks, the first deer ran into me, and the left portion of my front end was destroyed. I need to find those pics for everyone to see.

About a year ago, I joined the Air Force, and since have fixed the body to the condition you see now. Thats about it for now.

Upcoming Mods
Fix the body and get a custom flat black paint job with a clear coat and possible other details, to make the car stand out.

I already bought a holley 600 4 barrel carb and am going to start the process of tbi to carb conversion

Dual exhaust

Trick Flow Twisted Wedge Heads

Edelbrock Intake Manifold

I was thinking about Y2k Cobra Rs, but dunno I may look to make custom wheels involving something more along the lines of the cat.

Other engine mods are down the road, and will update as I decide what to do.

PS. With the new mustang going retro, I support bringing back the retro cougar body. I would love to see another eliminator, and so would we all!!!!

Watch it now...I have the trademark on Y2K Cobra R's on a Cougar. ;)

J/k bro, they're an EXCELLENT choice. When my car was getting redone in '01, I had about $2K to spend on rims. Saleen didn't play nice, and Steedas were still more expensive. I went with my third choice, the Y2K's. At that time they were brand spankin' new and nobody had them on their Mustangs yet, let alone any other Fox car. Then when I debuted the car, those rims got mixed reviews. Nobody saw the vision I had. Y2K's are all business, especially in their native silver finish. They are the perfect antidote to the regular Cobra R's that everyone has (not that they don't look cool, they're just sort of too common). Cut to 2003, after the new Cobra brakes and suspension upgrades, and now suddenly everyone loved the rims again. The 17" rims definitely need a big brake behind them. The stock brakes/drums look absolutely puny. Even the stock 10" Turbo Coupe discs in the back didn't help with looks. So I hope you're planning on big brakes too. :) Y2K's are from an exclusive car, from one model year only. That exclusivity is like nothing else. Two thumbs up.

Dang, the beginning of your story sounds like me.
I too bought my car in high school but I paid 900 but with 172,000 miles. The lers were the first thing I replaced because the old ones were rotted and probably the originals. I too got Flowmasters. It wasn't until 2 years ago that I started really modding the car.

Cool, Welcome.:D
