They were installed by lots of dealers, stereo shops in the 1980-1990 timeframe before Lojack. I used to park in a high theft area and wanted some protection, plus the insurance discount. Basically depending on how it was wired it would disable the starter, ignition, or fuel system, and the cable, and plunger you see went into another bracket on the hood so the hood could not be opened. This made the defeating the disable wiring more difficult. It is a push lock, and unlocked with a barrel shape key in the passenger compartment under the dash. Quote Selected
