headliner peeling... adhesive?

so the headliner in my bird is really starting to peel now... the fabric is peeling off starting from the rear windshield, and its even kind of brittle in some spots...

eventually im looking at replacing it, but for now i just want to stick it back up there.

was gonna use thumb tacks :D

but, i was wondering if anyone has used a particular adhesive to hold the fabric back up on that cardboard shiznit with any success?

all suggestions appreciated

NO!!! :eek: don't use thumb tacks.for the sake of your posterior and the back of your thighs.i once owned one of those other birds(76 455t/a)that i made the unfortunate mistake of using thumb tacks on.

EDIT: i was thinking od 3M-77 not p51...im an idiot...sorry

3-m p51 spray adhesive.
works awesome. just use it sparingly and once you apply it dont mess with it untill its dry.

It is really inexpensive to have the headliner re-done.If you pull it yourself,it's even cheaper.One of the local upholstery guys did mine for $30 (I pulled the headliner out and re-installed it).Made a world of difference in the interior.Like new again.

i know, illl probaby get re-done, .... but not right now. im gonna ride it all the way out.
now, that p51 adhesive, ... where i get? do i let it sit before i flatten the fabric down onto it? etc

Or You Could Use An Iron Set On Steam And Damp Cloth Over The Iron That Works Great And It's Free

OKAY,, so im a big dumbie...i was thinking of 2 different adhesives, my apollogies. the 3M product i was thinking of is 3M-77. its your best bet and works awesome. its also going to be easier for you to find.

the other one is a similar product by a company local to me called Nashua Tape Products/Tyco Adhesives. 357 is the name of it. this is the one i most recently used. it works awesome as well.

both are a construction adhesive. ive used it at work a few times. i assume home depo has it or possibly some other hardware stores. im sure you can get it on the internet. id try the iron first as its free. ill see if i can find a can for ya but i dont think i have any unused cans left. not sure when ill get to use it at work again as well.

OHHHH look what i just found when i did a seach....:

3M Super 77 Multipurpose Adhesive
This multi-purpose spray adhesive has high coverage and high tack.

Use 3M Super 77 for bonding lightweight materials, such as felt, plastics, foam, metal sheeting, fiberglass insulation, and paper products.

Note — Super 77 is not recommended as an adhesive for vinyl, Styrofoam, or automotive headliners.

i also found that they had changed their formula in 2002 and its not as good anyomre or somethign?

well....the nashua/tyco adhesives 357 is what i used, and it works awesome. i only used it on the edges where it was peeling back though, not the whole headliner. the 3m-77 is simmilar so i figured i through that out there...maybe stop by an upholstry shop and see what there useing:dunno:

well guys i ended up trying the 3m-77

i found the one in the black can, i had heard the bad one was in a brown can, so i bought it.

seems to have worked quite well, and was just the quick fix i was looking for. bought myself a little time until i have to redo the whole thing.
