What do you think?...oil catch can on tube from valve cover to intake...

Here's an example of an oil catch can using a compressor oil/water/air seperator. When ever I take my intake off, it is golden with oil. What about rigging something like this to the recycle line from the valve cover going into the throttle body? What about the PCV tube? Would this help or can it hurt? Would it effect emissions?

basically, what that does is install between the PCV, and the intake path, there isnt much you can do to recycle the oil back into your engine

you wont get performance, but you wont get oil back in your intakes as easily, i did something similar to the TC, but it drains onto the ground rather than into a nice can, and i dont get oil in the intake path anymore

Yeah, I wasn't expecting horsepower gains, and I wasn't thinking of recycling the oil back into the system. I just wanted to eliminate the oil going into the intake. Will it effect emissions at all (positively or negatively)?

Well oil going back into the intake would effect emissions but with it going into catch can it would not effect the emissions of the car.

I would like to know why your getting that much oil in there in such a short time.

Well I'm not so sure that I'm getting an excessive amount, rather I was just wondering if it would hurt to elminate ANY from getting in there.

Well the resion i asked is this is a old trick you do when u have built ether a losse motor or u have warn out one.

My 351 if i do a pass on and i dont have air breather in the Valve Cover odds are i will make enuf crank purssure that i will blow the oil dipstick out and get a free oil spray under the hood. Now i dont get alot of oil coming out but when it hits a hot header just a bit is more then enuf to get u kicked off the track.

Thanks for the info. I could use somethin like this. With the motor work comin up and my decision to stick with 1.7 rockers, I'll have to keep my old valve covers that have the baffle removed right under the oil fill hole. That removed baffle has put oil down my intake for 5 years now.....like you said not much, but some.

I was having this same issue with an edlebrock performer intake, edlebrock heads.... I ended up separating the two systems completely. I am venting to atmosphere with breathers in both valve covers. I also put a breather in the lower intake that is on the back of the motor right above the tranny...

I did try the oil separator but it did not do the job. It also was very restrictive of the pcv flow and I wasn't able to keep the motor idling properly due to low vacuum in the manifold. It is not an issue since I went with the above setup.
