I baffled the insurance company

Well after having my car on the road for 2 months I finally get a call (which i've been expecting LOL) from the insurance company who saw my Checkpoint Inspection report stating that I have a Mac Mini Computer in my car.

Well I got a call from them stating that I have to insure it. So I said, It's fine go ahead and insure it. Then the insurance rep calls back stating that she actually cannot do anything at this point because it's an obscure set up and her managers are baffled. She says most 21 year old guys are worried about putting rims on a car and shiznit like that and not a computer.. I told her that I'm not like most people my age, and told her 'Why am I doing it in a 20 year old cougar and not a new civic?' She's like "Exactly, this is what's confusing my managers". Then she said they're gonna research it a bit more and get back to me. I told them that if they wanted any questions or anything I can do to help them out.

I'd seriously like to know what's going through their heads right now. LOL. This is the shiznit I live for, doing the unprecedented.

Whats funny is I've been having complications with the insurance company ever since July when I put the car on the road, and it looks like by the time everything is resolved I'll be taking it off insurance anyway and storing it for the season!  :giggle:

It does not take much beyond having a 100% stock vehicle to make the insurance scratch their head.  You could offer to show them all your receipts and give an estimate on labor.  The other thing you could do is tell them you want stated value coverage for it and pick a number you like, and  that can be justified like $2500.00.

Well the discussion happened I was ready to send the recepits and then she called back to put things on hold until they figure things out.. labour estimate is nonexistent because I did everything myself. And she said they were already going to cover it based on the receipts i send them. But i guess since its so different they're probably thinking of a way to screw me on it.

hahaha. they probably have a liability list for import cars and what mods vs accident records and speeding and what not.. but for a car that old they have no idea if you are gunna be a jack arse teen or just a guy having fun with a toy car.. and yes.. how much to screw you on it.

Not just imports.....Domestics too.  If you bored and stroked your motor, and put a bigger turbo on it they would send your premiums through the roof.  Somehaw they will probably try to justify raising your premium a large amount and try to justify it by stating that your MacMini will be a possible distraction.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

Just tell 'em that only Windows-based cars crash, and that Mac-based cars are slower but more stable and safer, so your premiums should actually go down :D

Yeah .. route 66.. it's not great by any standards but it plots you on the map at least. BUt honestly what's gonna really help me out is the Griffin  and the Speech recognition.. because I literally don't have to touch the mouse, keyboard and/or look at the screen to open up itunes and control music. and since the  is in a more convenient spot then a  on a regular deck.. in a way, i'ts actually safer. I told her that it's mostly for passenger entertainment. Also, next time they contact me i'm gonna be straight up: Im a guy who's acting through with his dreams.. the car's on it's way to becoming a show vehicle and in which case practicality is not always a priority.
