two for the price of one bird

today I was taking my car apart to put in the heater core.  and apon removing some of the trim I noticed that my car has been welded together about halfway up the windsheild.  I tried to look for what all was changed but couldnt locate the other seem.  it looks as if the whole back half of the car had been replaced.  is this car worth keeping?  or should I junk it?  I would really hate to not have my car but I dont want to have an unsafe car.

woah come agian? get us some pics! If someone welded the car together, I would junk it. But see if you cant get some pictures first. It may be there fromt he factory. Check the bottom of the car too. it would have to be from the bottom aswell.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

well one side of the weld is blue and the other is silver so I dont think its factory,  I'll have to pull the covers again to get some pics but I'll get them as soon as I can.  I guess that explains why it has a salvage/rebuilt title

If that's the case, I would try to find another car. Who knows it's true history. Could have been welded by some shadetree mechanic and break any minute.
I don't even think I would drive it if it was professionally welded.

You didn't question this before you bought the car?

Those pictures aren't that great, but maybe the car had a new roof put on it.

it seems like everything from that part of the roof back is that blue color under the silver except for the doors and trunk lid.

Pull the C-pillar trim panels off on the inside and see what's going on in the back.  Like some others have said, it most likely had the roof replaced (maybe crushed by a tree or something to that effect)

You need to Look for other welds. Either in the floor pan or the B and C piller. If it is just the one weld I don't know. But read the door tags it will give you a paint code. See which part of the car it matches. The silver or the blue.

Also does the car have keyless entry? If so check the trunk hinge there should be a white sticker with the keyless entry nuber on it. Does it match?

Its small discrepences that you need to look for ie build tag date on the radiator support does it match the door tag?

File a complaint about the car with the state. Because it need to be inspected by the state before it goes back on the road if it is a salvage or rebuilt title.

But I would get the ball rolling and find out what the hell is going on with the car.
