I think he meant a Fox car.

I had a light sage green T-Bird (my first one) and a buddy had a dark sage green one (originally light sage green just like mine but he painted it dark sage green), but he wrecked it. FWIW, here's a pic of what was left:

Dark Sage Green was listed in the brochures as being available on the 1985 T-Bird/Cougar. The PPG paint chips list it as a Ford color only, not available on a Mercury. I honestly don't know if Dark Sage existed as a factory color on 1985 Cougars/T-Birds.

The Mustang got Dark Sage in 1985 (coupes, hatchbacks) as well as the 1985.5 SVO. (everywhere I've checked indicates that Light Sage was not available on the Mustang). The total number of Dark Sage Mustangs for 1985, including SVO's, was very, very low....like under 200 total. There were 4 Dark Sage SVO's. That's F-O-U-R.

On all cars (Cougar, T-Bird, Mustang) it seems the only interior color available was Prairie Tan. At this point we have nothing else as far as solid information. We don't know if leather seating was available, for instance (assuming it was). We don't have production number totals. We don't even have a good official photo from Ford.

That is how scarce and rare this color is. And that is why I will always maintain that a Sage Green Cougar is rarer than a convertible. I have seen exactly one Sage Green Cougar in my lifetime, and a wrecked Sage T-Bird in the boneyard. And I live 70 miles from the plant that produced these cars. Rare, rare, rare....buy one if you see one.

Eric: my light sage green T-Bird had the grey interior. My buddy's (the one wrecked in the pic above) had the tan interior.  Both were very basic, no-option V6 cars, though his did have power mirrors and cruise (mine had nothing but cruise control).

Hmmm...I remember the '85 Thunderbird brochure having a chart with interior/exterior color combinations. I think Prairie Tan was the only option with Light Sage. Maybe things changed in the dealer order book, which I'm still trying to hunt down for 1985. That would clear a lot of things up. I can see how grey would be another acceptable color to go with green though. Blue and red wouldn't have cut it. :P

Might be a Canadian thing as well, but I'm certain my color was Light Sage Green Metallic because I bought a quart of touch-up paint for it. It was an obscure color, though, because I had to have the paint custom mixed (it was not available in those spray bombs).

My buddy's light sage green T-Bird with the tan interior was actually two-tone inside - the top part of the dash was the same grey as mine but the bottom part was tan, as were the seats, door panels and plasticky bits.

I'm actually thinking that Light Sage may not have been a particularly rare color here in Canada - I had one, my buddy had one, and I remember looking at a light sage Cougar with turbines for sale in Dartmouth a few years ago (I think I told you about that one). If there were three in the Halifax/Dartmouth area they couldn't have been all that rare here anyway - hell, I think now there are only three or four Fox T-Bird/Cougars of any year or color around here.

Or...the dealers in the U.S. could have bitched to Ford: "We can't sell these green cars here...ship 'em up to Canada." ;)

What I can't understand is the sudden increase in desirability for those cars. Having owned one in what appears to be a very rare combo (grey interior) I can honestly say that it was not a flattering color. It was green, but not in a nice green sort of way. It was quite ugly, come to think of it, and had I had the resources it would've been painted just about any other color.

Rare is rare, but ugly is still ugly. Ya think anyone will be collectin' Suzuki X90's 20 years from now? In fact, ugly is likely the cause of the rarity to begin with.
