Cougar 99

Today i went to walmart in my cougar, and i parked the car besides a 99 cougar. I  have never seen one of those in the reality, only in photos (the cougar dissapears here in 95). Was red, too. The car looked in mint condition, but.....where the original spirit went ? my car looked like a behemoth besides this car. My car looked larger, narrower, and with more more styling than the cougar. That car looked very puppiesanese for me...even, looks like an eclipse. Really, for me , the last real  cougar were the 97.....

I used to hate em but with gas prices and the nice 150 top of the Xr7 i have come to accept them. If i had the nearly 5g's it would take to find a decent looking Xr7 i would definetally go for it.

The 99+ Cougar was aimed at a completely different crowd than the previouw cat.  It was to try to get the 'younger generation' into a Mercury, period.  The 'new' cat is based off of the same CDW-27 platform the Contour/Mystique/Mondeo are based out of and actually has a good little aftermarket.  http://www.fastcougar.com seems to be THE online source for info on the little cat.  Most suspension and drivetrain parts are interchangable between the Contour and Cougars.  We even have motor swaps and turbo kits out there.

The fastcougar site, i have seen already. Only checked the list of "possible swaps". The options, L4 Zetec, V6 duratec and the 3.0.
I have to control my desire of question....

"Hey, Can i Put a 5.0 V8 and a T5 RWD and make it at least an american Car ?"
"Does the frame will handle the torque of my 351?"
"Hey, what crossmember i need to Put my Side Oiler 428" ?

How many swaps we have avaible ? 2.3, 3.8 , 300 CID, 4948 V8 , 289, 351 , 460....

Although, true your swaps are less fuel effienct (sp?) and potentially cost more.  The cougar in its 2.5L MTX forum runs probably a hair quick 1/4 mile times than the quickest stock Fox body Cat / Bird, and of course handles worlds better.

The fact of the matter is, that its apple to oranges here.  The new cat is aimed at a completely different crowd, yet with the age of the platform is a much more reliable one too.  It may be cheaper to maintain a fox body car, but typically the reliablility isn't there mainly due to age.
