I moved my rods to the top setting and it holds the lid up but if you bump the car it will fall.

Yea, I ended up doing the strut mod, because my car didn't have any torsion springs in when I got it. ( :nutkick:  kids and thier speaker boxes...lol)

I'll tell you, you might need a friend to help.  its a pita to do on your own trying to hold the lid open and fight the rods.  I found that if you put the end on the hook then insert the straight end into the hinge arm that its much easier and you wont get hurt.  I used a pair of channel locks to help with leverage and once I got it started into the hole I used a hammer to get it the rest of the way.  hope I helped :D  oh by the way my hands hurt

BEARMAX,
I've never seen one like that, either.  It almost looks home-made.  You know what it also looks like?  An '80/'81/'82 XR7 roof grafted on an '85.  If the vinyl was restored, it might not be a bad looking car.  I may be wrong, but I don't think Ford/Mercury made that car look like that.  Eric or Carmen could probably confirm or refute that.  What do you guys think?

Um look at the interior pics. If Mercury made it, it would not have the full size window on the inside. It would be the size of the window on the outside.

It's aftermarket. The MX Brougham was a package sold to dealers. Sometimes there was a fill panel for the interior sail panel that made things look a little more thought out.

Taste...that's another thing altogether. ;)
