I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

OUCH !!  $3.39 for the low grade this afternoon (jumped from $2.65 this morning) and said to be going up again tonight. I feel like my pants were yanked around my ankles this afternoon and someone slapped me on hte back of the head because I was too stupid to stop this morning.

I put my first shot of Acetone in the tank also...my luck just about guarantees my motor will blow by Thursday afternoon, and I'll have a full tank I can't use.

Your going to run E85 in your car?  Hmm.  Should run great for like a year then your pump, fuel lines and possibly the injectors will need replaced.

Actone will sweal any rubber in comes in contact with.  Even when dilouted to less than one tenth of a percent.  Never put that in your fuel tank.  Many tests have been tryed, especially in the long haul trucking industry for fuel savings, in both gas and diesel engines.

The results were marginal savings for gasoline engines, but not nearly enought to warrant the damage you are doing.

I dunno about our old "clunkers" - after reading Car and Driver magazine tonight I see that a Chevy Impala with the V8 gets 18 city/29 highway. That's pretty ed close to my 17 year old V8 Thunderbird...

The Cougar has been parked in the driveway 90% of the time.
I've been driving the family truck - a '94 Mazda with the 2.3l 4-cyl and 5-speed. It's a dog, but it's not as thirsty as that 4.6 is.

Mark my words. This is going to get far worse before it gets any better.

Just peaked at 3 bucks even today.  Took me 10 bucks to fill up the bike.  I remember when that would get me half a tank in the ol' tbird.  If these oil people don't watch it, alternative fuels will kick thier asses.  The only reason they haven't so far is because the cost was too prohibitive, but if gas will cost just as much, I'd say goodbye to mid east oil in a heartbeat.  And why isn't the government doing SOMETHING to ease the stress on the system.  Fuel costs will raise the cost of everything else.  Surely they could cut the tax down a bit.  It seems our president is on vacation more than in the office  Thanks a ton bush supporters!  It may sound like hindsight, but would kerry have spent the better part of a term on vacation?  At least kerry got his money from ketchup, not oil.  Hmm...  rich texan with oil money is our leader...  Enough ranting for me, i'm going to have an aneurism if my blood pressure gets any higher, grr....

The difference is in the 303hp/323lbft and an extra 23ci. ;) That's a long haul from 150hp. It sure sounds like advancement to me.

But Oldraven, I'm sure if we upgraded our cars to 303 horses or more we could still get mileage very close to that if done right. Of course our actual observed economy would be much lower because let's face it - if we spend money to upgrade our engines to 303 horses we're gonna want to use those horses.

Which, of course, is all moot. The point I'm making is that nobody is trying to force us out of our cars that get almost 30MPG on the highway. Our 30MPG compares well to a lot of contemporary cars, whether they double our horsepower or not. The real problems are the ones that drive SUV's and pickup trucks that get 12 MPG on the highway. The problem is that aside from econopoopsters cars do not get any better mileage than they did 15-25 years ago, and in fact many get worse. Yes, an '05 V6 Camry makes about 80 more horses than an '89 V6 Camry, but the fuel mileage is likely not much different, and when gas approaches $4/gallon, people start to be interested in things like MPG's more than horsepower. Even my old 300,000 mile Dakota, even though it's only got 125 horses (100 of which have likely dies long ago), gets much better mileage than my father's recently purchased '05 Dakota. And econoshiznitboxes could get 100MPG, but it wouldn't matter because people don't want econoshiznitboxes. Yet. Give it a year at current (or likely higher) prices, then woe betide anyone trying to sell a used Suburban...

I put 200 miles on every friday AND saturday. Thats like 6 tanks in a pay check

Sounds about the same as me. Putting 600 miles on per week and there's no way around it. None of this at cruising speeds, all city and/or stop and go. 20mpg every time. ~$350 for the last few months. Guess I can expect half a grand soon enough

This whole hybrid car thing is not happening as soon as it could.  Think about it, even though the government is not minding this raise in gas prices (pen 15s) if we just ran out of gas and the last million or so barrels cost 300 bucks a pop, the world would shut down. Bammm.  Plains would fall out of the sky, the military would be nocked back 100 years and yada yada yada.  You know  well they don't want that to happen.

We have the technology to make hydrogen cars, hybrids, biodeisel (my favorite) and efficiant electric cars.  If the government told the car companies they needed this to happen and quickly it would already be done.  I remember hearing that the US had enough oil in reserve that they don't use, to run the country for like 75 years?  Can someone elaborate.  They are no doubt trying to slow the use of oil but if we had to come up with another fuel it could already be done.

I just got home from taking out my cougar for the last time. I'm pulling it off the insurance policy since I can longer afford the 3.89 /gallon for me to run her.

It's only going higher. My 6 dollar an hour job just can't afford it anymore. :(

I'm so upset. I'm almost at the feeling where I'm like helplessly lost on what to think anymore.
