option delete bird?

how rair are they? i just found one that belongs to my gf's friend. its a white 87, red interior, no power anything, no cruis, buttstuffog clock, 6 cylinder, 14" steel wheels with covers

I had an '85 like that - it didn't even have a right side mirror, and it had an am/fm radio (no tape deck). No power options, no A/C, not even fuel injection (it had a 2bbl carb). C5 tranny, wheel covers (and not even the spoked ones), buttstuffogue clock, Its only option was metallic paint. it did have a rear defroster, but those were standard equipment in Canada.

They're fairly rare, but probably more common in the 83-86's than they are in the 87-88's.

my 84 GS (cougar) has no power windows, no power locks, no ac, no cruise, has the carbed 3.8, c5 tranny, buttstuffog clock. When i originally bought it had a radio that only played AM,.. no fm or tapes. although it does,have the pass side rear view mirror and they are power mirrors.

My '84 was kinda that way. Had a wierd combo. Vynil seats, factory sunroof, A/C, 5.0, no power trunk or gas door, no lighted vanity mirrors and only one door mirror, non-power.

Woah... wrongo unless my EVTMs are in error.

5.0s were the same in CA as in the US(at least from 86-88)

The 3.8 used a carb in CA thru '86, but used CFI in '87 and SEFI in '88, same as the US versions.

Talk about rare, I have seen a couple of '88 Sports with crank em windows, manual mirrors and seats. The console plate is completely smooth with no switches for seats, mirrors, or windows.

CFI was available in Canada but it is very rare to see on one older than '87. My ex girlfriend's brother-in-law had an absolutely loaded '84 Cougar LS with a CFI 3.8. In '87 CFI was standard equipment, just like the US cars.

You're right about the A/C though - that didn't become standard in Canada until '91. Even still, most Canadian cars (especially the 5.0 ones) had A/C. They were, after all, a relatively luxurious model line.

A car like ifixyawata's '84 was quite rare. Most 5.0 models at least had power windows, locks, mirrors, seats, cruise and air. I've never seen one of these cars with vinyl seats, either, though my 85 had vinyl on the backs of the seats (as does my 88).

My '88 Cougar had a strange option package as well. It was an LS, 5.0, A/C, power windows, mirrors, and sunroof. No power locks, seats, trunk or gas door, no cruise and no premium sound (tho it did have a cassette deck).

My '88 5.0 T-Bird has power windows, mirrors, locks, trunk and fuel door, cruise and A/C, but no power seats.

It's funny how back then you could select individual options from a list. Now you have to purchase option packages (no sunroof without leather, no power locks without power windows, etc). You could also choose from more interior colors. Back then in a T-Bird or Cougar you could get grey, black (raven), light blue, dark blue, red, and tan (gold). Now you can choose from tan or grey in new cars. Some even offer black. Everything is neutral.

Tom: you posted that about teh EVTM's while I was typing my reply. You can't really go by what the American EVTM's show. Usually, when there is a difference with Canadian models the manufacturer will provide Canadian dealerships with supplements to the shop manuals. The supplements can be anywhere from a page to a full booklet, depending on the number and scope of the differences. This is quite common with things like daytime running lights, different emissions equipment, etc...

Even Mitchell on demand has canadian additions! Speaking of CFI, my grandfather had an 1987 cougar (since new) and it was a 3.8L with 2bbl so not even cfi was standard here.

Summer? What summer? It missed Nova Scotia completely.

You're right about Mitchell, too, but Mitchell is actually missing a lot of Canadian info. For instance, if you look up a '91 Cougar's headlight wiring diagram it makes no mention of DRL. I've got Mitchell 5.7 with the third quarter 2004 data (the most recent available).

I knew a guy with a 86 cougar no a/c, crank windows, buttstuffog clock, plain metal hubcaps and it was a US car............back in 84 cougars were in the paper for $9999.00. They had a/c am/fm rear defog and little else not even a passenger door mirror or power windows...i think they sold pretty good since back then for the $ alot of folks were happy with just a/c and stereo

Yeah, I neglected to mention I didn't have power windows or locks... y'all must have just remembered it. It also, oddly enough, had a digital clock but no map lights. Didn't even have a light in the center console (which was standard in '84 btw, I think.) I did have locking wire wheel covers, though.

I have a 86 5.0 with ac full digital dash, and a digital clock. No power windows, seats, mirrors,rear window defroster, no viniynl or passenger side mirror.

I always get a kick out of seeing the ones with a split bench seat and a totally flat black insert where all the power windows/seats/mirror switches should be.

When we bought our 88 XR7 there was a white/blue XR7 with cloth, crank windows, no power locks, AM/FM, and buttstuffog gauges. If I remember correctly it was only $14,500 on the sticker! I have NEVER seen another XR7 as stripped as that one ever again.
