OH ********** $1.00 gas reaches cheepest city in Canada

In the last few years Winnipeg (not alberta) has been the cheepest place to buy fuel in Canada.  Today we are paying $1.05 a liter.  I now know how the rest of you Canadians feel.

I did a little research and in Canada (Manitoba at least)  $0.48 of each liter goes to governmental road taxes at this price.

48 cents a liter in taxes? ouch! And I thought the 27 cents per gallon was bad here.

107.9 here today. The price jumped up at a few stations to 109.9 but quickly came back down after the other stations didn't raise theirs. What this means, if history is an indicator, is that in a few days all stations will put their prices up to 112.9.

It's funny - every single time, without fail, that gas prices go up here it is three major companies that start it: Petro Canada, Esso and Irving. Every single time. When the price goes up these three are all the same, and the others usually hold out for a bit before putting the price up. They can only hold out for so long, though, because they buy their gas from Petro Canada, Esso, or Irving. And yet you still see people buy gas from these companies. I've even seen a 10 cent/liter difference between two stations next door to each other (a Petro Can and an Ultramar, whos corporate standard is to always have the lowest price, so they always raise theirs last) and fools still buy from Petro Canada. I would run out of gas before I'd buy from one of those three companies, and I reward the others (Ultramar, Wilsons, Superstore and Canadian Tire) with my business because they always hold out on the increases. I wish everyone else would take the same stance and punish the s that raise the prices....

Well, that's true...our state tax alone is 27 cents per gallon, I don't know how much total tax there is but I'm sure it's up there around 60-70 cents per gallon. The govt. must make a lot of tax money off gas, they tax the  out of it.

Anyway I filled up last night...$2.75 for 93 octane. This is really starting to hurt, considering I only make $6.90 an hour and I'm still in school. Looks like probably 80% of my income during school will have to go toward gas :toilet:
