83-84 Gauge faces? August 12, 2005, 10:05:16 AM Anyone want to work up a file for me? I just don't have the time to try and alter any. Not sure what you need to start with (a high res scan of an existing face?).I'm wanting to do up a "silver" set for the 80 (which is using an 83-84 cluster) and the originals were silver and a little different...PM me or email me (cwarren@indy.net)Also, having the file would then allow for a 140-150 mph face to be made (I can have a speedo recalibrated) for one of the others.Chuck Quote Selected
Re: 83-84 Gauge faces? Reply #1 – August 12, 2005, 11:02:12 AM Sure thing, I'm game. A good, high-res scan of the face is all we need. Save it as a JPG, highest quality, and preferably at 300dpi or more. If you want, to make the file smaller, you can scan as a BMP or greyscale...we won't need the color. Mail to eric AT coolcats.net.One suggestion: after scanning, print out the file, cut out the shape, and place it on top of the cluster to make sure it lines up correctly. You may find you have to increase just the width by 102.5%. Don't ask me why--that's just the way it seems to work out with copiers and scanners. :) Quote Selected
Re: 83-84 Gauge faces? Reply #2 – August 12, 2005, 11:31:59 AM Well, as long as my scanner behaves that should not be a problem.I also may include a pic of the '80 gauges for coloring ideas. However, if you get the file done, swapping colors should not be a problem. I just don't do a very good job on "clean-ups". Thanks and let me see if I can get the scans in the next few days... Re: 83-84 Gauge faces? Reply #4 – August 12, 2005, 05:31:38 PM Doing the brushed aluminum look of the 80's gauges would be sweet, esp with a 140mph police speedo and a turbo coupe tach. Quote Selected
Re: 83-84 Gauge faces? Reply #5 – August 13, 2005, 01:00:42 AM If I can do up a tach in the similar pattern to the '80 look and do a face for a 140 or the like on the old style that would be pretty cool.... Quote Selected
Re: 83-84 Gauge faces? Reply #6 – August 14, 2005, 11:10:31 AM I got a pretty good pic maybe that would work. I've been lookin for some of those faces. anything you need maybe I can help out. Chuck is on my wave length. The 83-84 bodies are the best. Chuck have you looked into what it would take to make the speedo accurate with the 140mod that you are talking about. I know these older ones have a cable so do you know witch color gear we would need with the different speedo Quote Selected
Re: 83-84 Gauge faces? Reply #7 – August 14, 2005, 12:09:22 PM Well, I don't have any clusters that aren't in cars...ipsd, we need a good high res scan of a gauge face.I have one pf a speedo that I scanned and started to mess with, but not sure how useful it would be Quote Selected

Re: 83-84 Gauge faces? Reply #9 – August 28, 2005, 02:05:48 AM Start my new position on Tues the sixth hopefully I can yank out the cluster the holiday weekend and take it apart and get some good scans of just the faces. My only wonder is how acurate could we make our cable driven speedo's with the new faces? I'd love to make some new faces just want them to be acurate as it is now "dead on". I've also though about just takeing transparent plasic and make it a true back-lite setup. just need the factory faces for size , shape ,hole ,and slot locations then it up to us to make it like we want it. Any how let me know what gear we would need to make the speedo accurate so I can start the process. Quote Selected
