Re: alcohol anyone? Reply #1 – August 07, 2005, 04:18:41 PM Methanol = wood alcohol.. the stuff you don't drink unless your last name is "Dukakis"Ethanol = grain alcohol.. the stuff you drink if you're into that sort of thingYes, I believe methanol is the one usually used in fuel applications. Re: alcohol anyone? Reply #5 – August 07, 2005, 10:22:43 PM almost all gas stations in minnesota run 10% ethanol even in the 93 octane but there are a few that have non-oxygenated fuel cuz the ethanol is hard on the collector cars and it goes stale alot faster Quote Selected

Once i saw a Bus that was part of an environmental project which was running with Ethanol (If i remember right)... It was Corn based Fuel. Quote Selected
Re: alcohol anyone? Reply #7 – August 08, 2005, 07:31:12 AM Around here (Iowa) most of the city and state cars are run on 85% ethanol. We have more corn that we know what to do with, so might as well pump some into our gas tanks. The ethanol is cheaper here, too. Only by 5 or 10 cents, but it's a difference. I won't run the in my motorcycle, but the car runs pretty well with it. Quote Selected
Re: alcohol anyone? Reply #8 – August 08, 2005, 08:17:59 AM in most cases you don't need to do anything to run ethanol or ethonal blends in your car.Methonal on the other hand is a bit more potent and should only be run in cars that are race fuel ready. Michigan runs 10% ethanol, it is amazing that people are "oh no we need more oil.." but yet we burn in the the fields millions of tons of biomass that could be come ethanol fuels if they would just build a couple refineries... but that is all, i'll stop ranting now... (i wouldn't have to rant if I wasn't driving 120 miles + every day with 2.50/gal gas prices.. grrr..) Quote Selected

Re: alcohol anyone? Reply #10 – August 08, 2005, 03:20:47 PM we dont get corn fuel here in ohio. Most new cars have an option to be flex fuel. On Fords they have the little tree and road square plaque on the side or the tailgate for trucks. The 10% blend I believe is safe for any vehicle but for high blends the cars have to be flex fuel equiped because the ethbuttstuff will destroy fuel pumps, injectors and conventional rubber. Re: alcohol anyone? Reply #11 – August 08, 2005, 07:41:14 PM so if I added a gallon or two of methanol to my tank of gas would it hurt/improve anything? Quote Selected
