Ridin' on chrome! August 03, 2005, 08:37:33 PM Was a Blue 84 302, now it's flat black with rims that are kinda chrome/rust/brake dust. Always a work in progress, but it's commin along nicely.Does the rims look alright? Do you think it's stupid that they stick out the side of the car real far? I'm pretty sure they're made for a FWD vehicle, but the guy had them on a ranger and i didn't think it looked bad. Quote Selected
Re: Ridin' on chrome! Reply #1 – August 03, 2005, 08:44:05 PM So do you think the rims are stupid? It's still better than what i use to have, but i can't help to think it's not cool on the bird. Is it alright that they stick out from the fenders? Now for a trip down memory lane. The first two pics are what i had to start with.... Quote Selected

Re: Ridin' on chrome! Reply #3 – August 03, 2005, 09:19:32 PM Yeah those wheels are sticking out about 3-4 inches to far IMO. Other than that you're making progress... I didn't even recognize your car until you posted the older pics. Uhm... where did they go? Quote Selected
Re: Ridin' on chrome! Reply #4 – August 03, 2005, 09:39:22 PM QuoteDoes the rims look alright? Do you think it's stupid that they stick out the side of the car real far? I agree with darkthunder, the rims need to go... asap. They just don't fit. Look on the brightside though. You have a nice 5 lug conversion now and have a HUGE selection of rims.. Not like use 4luggers that are stuck with mostly factory style wheels.. Quote Selected
Re: Ridin' on chrome! Reply #5 – August 03, 2005, 10:28:04 PM Yeah, they're sitting a little too far out for my taste. But it's still better than an MN12 Bird I came across yesterday. If I only had a camera to take a picture. It reminded me of the pimped out 92 XR7 Cougar model that Revell put out a while ago. Quote Selected
Re: Ridin' on chrome! Reply #6 – August 03, 2005, 10:35:31 PM I call the style "skateboarding" it handles like a dream. I've played around with the idea of making it kinda like a Trans AM racer, and getting some big ol' fenderflares for it. Still can't decide if i like the wheels or not... starting to lean towards "maybe not"... Quote Selected
Re: Ridin' on chrome! Reply #7 – August 03, 2005, 11:03:40 PM Paint looks good, but those wheels and the tailpipes sticking way out would bug me to no end if I did that to one of mine. But hell, it bugs me that my Mark has two different exhaust tips. I'm just annoyed by stupid things, I guess. Comes with being the official "L*O*S*E*R" around here. :D (Eric said so!)If you want wheels that look *somewhat* like that, and you have a five-lug conversion, would LSC wheels work for you? I don't know the offset, unfortunately. (although I could measure 'em tomorrow, wouldn't be much to pull one off the '88) Quote Selected
Re: Ridin' on chrome! Reply #8 – August 03, 2005, 11:24:23 PM I want some of those gold 16 inch lincoln rims. I still need springs before i change anything else... i have a total of 4 of the spring helper packages in the back so that's top o the list. But the paint job is spray paint... and it was windy, don't be fooled, it's flat black but i sprayed it down to give it some shine. Quote Selected
Re: Ridin' on chrome! Reply #9 – August 03, 2005, 11:26:19 PM Good progress, but those wheels will eat your wheel bearings in short order. Quote Selected
Re: Ridin' on chrome! Reply #10 – August 03, 2005, 11:45:45 PM Well if that's rattle-can work, it's even better quality given the materials. I've done a lot of random rattle-canning on my cars, and not come anywhere near that kind of reflectivity and what not. Quote Selected
Re: Ridin' on chrome! Reply #11 – August 04, 2005, 12:15:36 AM please loose the wheels reminds me of the 80's when everything had reverse spoke rims Quote Selected
Re: Ridin' on chrome! Reply #12 – August 04, 2005, 02:21:32 AM I have to say no on the wheels. That is way old school. Quote Selected
Re: Ridin' on chrome! Reply #13 – August 04, 2005, 08:46:09 AM Try to stay away from big speed bumps, especially with a car full of friends, or you'll be looking for new fenders. Quote Selected
