Tachometer question

Does anyone know what it would take, if possible, to make the factory tach from a 4 cyl car function properly for a 8 cyl. I'd like to lose my aftermarket tach and use whats already there if at all possible.

Thanks for the info Thunder Chicken, mine is a 84. I guess that means I'm hunting for an 87 or 88 tach.

'87 or '88 will not fit your dash. I'm not sure if anything will, but you might try to find a tach from an LTD LX - they're pretty rare, but the tach may fit your dash. It'll be closer than the 85-88 T-Bird/Cougar dash, anyway...

I have a few 4 cyl 84 tachs , so I may as well get creative and see if I can get one to work for me. They won't work for me now so the worst that can happen is they still won't work. If anyone has tried to do this and knows what not to do that might be a good start. Thanks again for the info.
