If you don't want a torn up part, buy it new or rebuilt, plain and simple.  Used parts are always a risk.  For more, translate the following.  It'll be the most research you've ever done.

Christ, you make my head hurt.  Do you have to repeatedly ask which side of the toilet paper you need to use when you wipe your ass?

Well, if you had read any of the other posts on this subject and done some reading you would realize that your 87 or 88 TBird has the 7.5 housing.  Also, you would have read that the 87-88's 7.5 housing is wider than the early (83-85) 7.5 housing (which is the same as a Mustang), which is the same as the 8.8's.  The axles do not interchange between the wide and narrow housings.

This is the last time this is going to be said ....... if you want to use a 8.8 housing AND keep the 4-lug then you need to use the axles and brake backing plates from an 83-85 Tbird/Cougar in the 8.8 housing  to get the bearing surfaces to mate up and keep the track width.
