proportioning valve question kinda urgent November 19, 2016, 10:47:27 PM doing a restoration on an 87coug and specifically related to brakes.A while back we deleted the proportioning valve from an 88 bird w/ 5.0L factory.right now i am restoring an 87coug which originally came with a V6.i set the 87 coug proportioning valve aside.I installed the 88 proportioning valve from the 88 5.0L bird on to the 87 chassis only because it was clean and recently used and known as good.i noticed the 88 prop valve was stamped with the part number begining in E8,, and the 87 prop valve i had set aside had a part number beginining with E7.,, i found that odd because i was just thinking ,, is there an E3, E4, E5 & E6 and if so what were the changes.I am adding my replacement brake line to the 87 coug from the rear and heading to the front with the original 3/16'' size line but replacing with NiCopper line.I get up to the proportioning valve which came from the 88bird and the original fitting is 1/4'' line size with 20 TPI. all the other fittings are 24TPIthe 87 coug prop valve i have set aside in this same bottom location has the old fitting which accepts 3/16'' line.so whats the scoop?my 88 prop valve is not a direct swap to an 87chassis?or........is it that if the car was V6, they got a 3/16'' main feeder brake line to the rear while the V8 cars got a 1/4'' main rear feeder line ? proportioning valve question kinda urgent Reply #1 – November 19, 2016, 10:52:00 PM all you have to do is pop your hood on your car...look at the bottom of the prop valvelook at the line closest to the front of the car, thats your rear main feeder.is that line larger or the same size as all the other lines?if this line is the same size, you probably have a v6,, if its bigger you probably have a v8 or a TC?
