Cruise Control Servo & Cable

Howdy -

WANTED: Cruise Control Servo & cable for 1987 Cougar (20th Ann. Edition)

The cruise control on Roxanne (my 87) went out while driving down the road (about 8 or 9 years ago!).

I was trying to get it repaired for my upcoming CatJam trip. That's 1500+miles each way for me, and having the cruise functional again would have made for a more pleasant drive, I think. A few days ago, my mechanic diagnosed the servo (the thing inside the fender) as being bad. He contacted a Ford dealer, and they said that the part was discontined earlier this year, but they were able to track one down...

However, the part came in yesterday, and it seems that the servo in my car is actually an '86 type, and is completely different from the one that Ford sent the garage. Oh, and guess what? that's right, that part is also discontinued, and it seems there are no more to be found through Ford dealer inventories, anyway.

So, I'm in the market for a working servo & matching cable.

If you have one for sale, please reply, or message, or email me!

I would also be interested in anyone's knowledge of other years/models where I  might find a similar servo setup (Thunderbirds, of course, but might some Mustang or Mark VII servos be the same?) This would help out if I end up having to go hunt one down in the junkyards.

This is the Ford part number stamped into my servo: E5AF-9A827-AA
(no part # could be found on the cable - mechanic says it may have been printed on some now long-gone paper).

THANKS! :america:

Sly1990 - I may have already found one to purchase, but heck...I plan on keeping this darn car for as close to forever as I'm going to get, so I might as well have an extra one, right? You can never have too many spare parts...that's what I always say! (and wish I didn't... )

I know you already have your wheels off  ;) , so go ahead and see if you can find yours. If you can, I'd be glad to purchase it (and the cable that attaches to it) from you.

Thanks a bunch!  :canada:

Oops - part of my last post seems to have not made it...I think I should have proofread it first! ;)

From what I understand after reading other threads concerning cruise control, it is located somewhere INSIDE the driver's side fender. I believe you have to remove the wheel and the inside fender skirt to get to it.

Ok... i'll check tomorrow..... the fender is already off the cars and so are the wheels...
So it should be easy to see....

On my 20th anny I went down to the local wrecking yard and they pulled the servo and cable off of a 86 turbo coupe.  I may be wrong but more than likely it isn't the servo that is bad but the cable.  When/If you open up the servo you will find the cable attaches to the servo via a small bb sized ball on the end of the cable.  If you can find another cable or can tack weld something back to the end you will be back in business.

I ended up using my servo but used the TC cable.  My wrecking yard removed the servo and cable for me and sold me the parts for $15 - $20.

The servo is attached to the firewall.  If you remove the tire and then the splash guard you will see it it has a black rubber cover to keep moisture out.

PS.  I am glad to see someone else who is keeping their 20th stock.  It has taken some time but mine looks just like yours minus the keyless entry.
