Cup Holders?

Okay, I've tried to search this subject, but didn't get much for results. What's everyone doing for cup holders? I mean, besides jamming your drink in between the seat and the console? Any creative ideas out there? I just picked up an '88 TC with a 5 speed and I'm always driving with a drink. This is my first manual trans car. I'd love to see some pictures. Thanks!

Swap a taurus flip out cup holder that goes in the dash. I drive with a 44oz soda pretty frequently, but that's with an auto.

I deleted all my power options in the center console. I was gonna cut a big hole the size of a 64oz big gulp and drop it down in there and maybe paint/fiberglass it in place, but im pretty sure that would get in the way with a 5 spd, and you would still have to delete any power options you have, except maybe power windows

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

I've actually often thought about installing a din sized flip out cup holder like that above the arm rest in the rear seat. My kids are used to a flip down center arm rest in the back seat and will leave drinks just sitting on the arm rest.

Haystack - I'm going to investigate that option. Although I'd like to put some gauges in the cubby hole, maybe I'll consider another location.

Daminc - Nice idea relocating the A/C controls! Never considered that. If I go that route, I'll have to see if it interferes with the shifter.

Maybe someone can help me out here, but I saw a pic once of someone's interior where they had taken a counsel lid and cut out an opening and put a cup holder in the counsel lid.  I honestly don't recall who posted that pic but I'm sure someone here remembers that and can either repost the pic or help direct you to that person.  As I recall, it was a pretty professional look.  I remember that because I am probably going to do the same one of these days.

This was an idea I came up with after a long time of thinking and drawing, and trying to find the most functional option for me. I rarely carry a drink in my car, but if I do, it's usually a cup from a drive through window, and I didn't want anything in the way of my shifter, so, this was it. IF you borrow my idea, you shall be contractually obligated to state where the idea came from. Sorry, but that's the way it is.

As the cops say.."don't drink and drive". Problem solved, hahahahaha

I've got two cup holders in my Mountaineer, and that's still not enough. Gotta have room for a big-ass glass of unsweetened iced tea. Yep, no sugar, can't stand sweet tea. makes my skin crawl.

Gotta have the other one for my spare mags, knife, flashlight, pens, change, etc. Though if the wife is with me, all that stuff has to go elsewhere for her tea. Back to tea...we just ain't fans of sweet tea. Long days in the bean fields, spring and fall tend to cure you of wanting sugary or sweet drinks.

Coolcats has an article on it...

Hmm... maybe not. Closest i found... http://www.coolcats.net/sotc/033101.html

From about 1990-95 tari had them. They are retained in place the same way as a radio. I bought one when i was 16 but never got around to doing it. It should be pretty self explanatory though.
